The Position

Genentech, a leading biotechnology company, is seeking a Senior Director of Site Development with extensive experience in strategic site planning and development. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the future of the Genentech campus by developing and implementing forward-thinking strategies for aspects of site development to align with long-term development as outlined by the campus vision plan and Campus master plan. This role requires close collaboration with senior leadership and peers across site planning, real estate, design, and construction to drive the defined plan and execute all elements of the site strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive, long-term strategies for site development that align with Genentech's campus vision and strategic priorities.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to synchronize site development strategies with broader organizational goals and campus projects such as the gRED center.

  • In conjunction with Site Operations, lead the development and execution of the site utility master plan, ensuring future utility needs are anticipated and met with efficient design.

  • Oversee temporary utility relocations to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

  • Drive site enablement projects, preparing the campus for future expansions and development phases including the development of the campus substation.

  • Lead the design and implementation of master site landscaping projects, ensuring both aesthetic and functional excellence in landscape architecture.

  • Coordinate efforts related to site mobility, including the design of circulation and transportation systems that ensure optimal access and internal movement, including efforts to align site logistics strategies.

  • Enhance site accessibility by developing efficient pedestrian walkways, vehicle access routes, and public transportation links.

  • Ensure that all site development projects are meticulously managed to meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules, allocating resources effectively and setting clear milestones.

  • Guarantee compliance with company policies, as well as regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Develop and manage budgets for all site development projects, ensuring cost-efficiency and strategic financial planning. Implement robust financial controls to monitor expenses and predict future funding requirements.

  • Promote a culture of safety, conducting regular audits and implementing corrective actions when necessary.

  • Lead efforts to coordinate site access, logistics, contractor laydown and staging, and trade parking for all campus development projects.

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant environmental regulations, zoning laws, and safety standards.

  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and external partners.

  • In conjunction with site planning and legal, work with the city of South San Francisco planning department and utility companies to define onsite and offsite improvements including the privatization of DNA way.

  • Foster strong relationships with utility providers, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices to incorporate innovative approaches to site development, enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and cutting-edge technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in civil engineering, architecture, urban planning, construction management, or a related field. An MBA or equivalent business management qualification is advantageous.

  • Additional certifications in project management or construction management are advantageous.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in site development, construction management, or a related field, with a focus on strategic planning and large-scale, complex projects.

  • Proven track record of leading and delivering successful, high-impact campus development projects from conception through to completion.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, able to anticipate challenges and develop proactive solutions.

  • Extensive knowledge of site utility systems, landscaping, transportation planning, and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and managing large-scale project finances.

  • Ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement in site development practices.

  • Strong capability to lead and mentor interdisciplinary teams, ensuring all team members are aligned with the strategic objectives.

  • A visionary leader with the ability to foresee and capitalize on emerging trends in site development.

  • Ability to foresee potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $197,500.00 - $366,900.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
