Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, development planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape the future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including US Space Force, U.S Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. DSG also assists the Space Force Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

This is a job for a Senior Project Engineer - Electro-Optical and Systems Engineering to provide support to customer programs. The job will require a broad range of experience as the role will span hardware, software and test. You will work closely with Customer Program Offices, Mission Partners, matrix engineering and laboratory organizations to assure sound technical direction is being implemented in acquisitions to extend space capabilities in times of conflict. This is a full-time position based in Albuquerque, NM and requires 100% onsite work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Serve as the Aerospace Senior Project Engineer assisting in the acquisition of a complex national capability
  • Work with teams of technical domain experts to advise the acquisition, launch test and operations integration for a series of advanced electro optical mission payload and associated spacecraft development efforts
  • Work with teams of technical domain experts to conduct analysis of program concepts of operation, as well as development contractor design solutions and associated anomalies
  • Have direct day to day interaction counseling government and mission partner decision makers on payload and mission technical topics, progress and mission assurance
  • Have routine interaction participating in government oversight with prime and subcontractor development partners
  • Brief technical initiatives, status and corrective recommendations to government and Aerospace management
  • Provide interdisciplinary technical leadership to Integration Teams supporting Space superiority efforts

What You Need to be Successful - Sr. Project Engineer, Electro-Optical Engineering

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM or applicable subject area
  • 12 or more years of related experience
  • Experience in electro-optical payload or sensor acquisition, analysis, and/or development
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and systems integration
  • Willing to travel domestically approx. 20%
  • Adapting mission assurance practices to align with program risk tolerance
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

  • Experience supporting mission assurance assessments of complex hardware design programs
  • Experience working with leading matrix technical support across multiple concurrent technical domain areas
  • Current ability to obtain and maintain eligibility for Department of Defense (DoD) Special Access Programs (SAP)
