Overview
Responsible to ensure that workmanship and materials meet the required specifications and standards. The Quality Engineer verifies that products and services meet customer expectations and achieve business goals. The Quality Engineer is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their area of expertise and is expected to leverage that knowledge to improve project performance, supplier management, and promote continual improvement. Location & Travel Details: This position can be located at or near any of our office locations: Fargo, ND; Indianapolis, IN; or Phoenix, AZ. Position requires approximately 50% travel.

The Clean Energy & Infrastructure Group is comprised of the business sectors and companies: Industrial - Casey Industrial, MasTec Industrial, Phoenix Industrial; Infrastructure: American Civil Constructors West Coast, Cash Construction, FNF Construction, Lemartec Corporation, MasTec Civil, Precision Aggregate Products, Ragnar Benson Construction, Saiia, William Charles Construction, William Charles Electric; Renewables: Bianchi Electric, IEA Constructors, Wanzek Construction, White Construction.
Responsibilities
Review test results of materials or products to ensure functionality, performance, and compliance with specifications and standards
- Inspect workmanship, materials, components, and final products from pictures and on-site audits
- Develop and implement quality control procedures to reduce defects, rework, and prevent nonconformances
- Implement preventative actions to minimize the risk of future occurrences
- Review and approve Lessons Learned and Quality Alerts, in Zavanta as well as assist in standard operating procedure (SOP) updates and reviews
- Attend phase gate dry runs to provide insight and guidance and work with project team for quality portion of the final phase gate presentation
- Assist in developing inspection test plans for compliance with project specifications regarding incoming materials
- Analyze data collected from testing and inspections to identify trends, root causes of defects, areas of improvement
- Identify potential quality issues during the design, development, and construction
- Investigate corrective and preventative action (CAPA) to determine root causes of quality issues or problems and develop corrective actions to fix the existing issue and prevent reoccurrence
- Review and investigate ways to improve quality control processes and enhance overall quality
- Review new technologies for streamlining existing processes or procedures
- Review engineered drawings and specifications to understand the requirements for incoming materials
- May collaborate with project team on request for information (RFI's) for defining tolerances, clarifying project specifications, and quality control procedures
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality is integrated throughout the lifecycle of the project
- Assist the Field Quality Manager in training project staff on quality expectations, project specifications, receiving materials, performing inspections, entering observations, tracking of quality metrics, quality assurance, and quality control
- Generate required reports to document quality issues, test reports, and corrective actions
- Review and maintain quality control documentation as needed
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop corrective action plans to address root causes and prevent re-occurrence
- Assist when needed to pre-qualify a supplier, observe factory acceptance testing, and determine if test results meet job specifications
- Conduct audits of supplier facilities and processes when warranted
- Maintain clear communication with internal teams and external suppliers regarding quality expectations and issues by keeping detailed records of inspections, test data, and corrective actions
- Analyze supplier performance data to identify opportunities for improvement in quality and cost efficiency throughout the supply chain
- Manage supplier performance metrics
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in quality, communication, business, industrial technology, construction, science, engineering, or related field
- Eight year's experience in Quality Management or continuous improvement in construction
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the Company's Zero Injury principles
- Ability to communicate complex and technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Familiarity with quality control software and data analysis tools such as Procore, Project Sight, LMS, and Zavanta
- General understanding of Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO Compliancy
- Hight attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Read, analyze and interpret blueprints, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts or governmental regulations
- Write reports, technical specifications, work instructions, procedures, business correspondence and document quality related issues and activities
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers, superintendents, clients, customers and the general public
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, statistics, and geometry
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
