DESCRIPTION

The Department of Psychology (http://psy.ucsd.edu/) consistently ranks among the top experimental psychology programs in the country. Currently there are 26 ladder-rank faculty, 12 research faculty, 30 staff and 55 graduate students. The department has over 50 active federal contracts/grants and gift funds. The annual expenditures total over $10 million across federal, state, and gift funds.

The lab coordinator will work closely with Dr. Walker in an administrative capacity with many opportunities to engage directly with the research process (including experimental design, participant testing, and manuscript writing). Responsibilities include hiring, training, and mentoring undergraduate research assistants (RAs); serving as a liaison between graduate students and RAs; developing and maintaining research partnerships with local museums, schools, and community centers; coordinating online and in-person research; managing participant databases; working with the UCSD IRB; and maintaining lab equipment and supplies. The lab coordinator will also play a significant role in maintaining a positive, welcoming, and supportive lab culture. This position is ideal for those interested in gaining more research experience before pursuing a Ph.D. in psychology, cognitive science, or education. Schedule is Monday-Friday (variable hours), some weekends and evenings required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience conducting research in a lab environment.

  • Experience working with children / infants / human subjects.

  • Experience with the following software: Microsoft, Excel, Word, FileMaker, SPSS.

  • Two years of applicable college-level coursework in experimental Psychology, Education, Human Development, Cognitive Science, or equivalent lab experience.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with Human Subjects requirements.

  • Highly self-motivated, able to solve problems independently and with initiative.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills for interacting with parents, lab members, departmentalstaff

  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated skills in accurate record keeping, filing, etc.

  • Ability to supervise and train lab student assistants in the use of laboratory equipment and testing procedures.

  • Ability to act professionally, and work effectively with a range of personnel, including laboratory staff, faculty and visitors.

  • Reliable mode of transportation in order to perform field research in San Diego.

  • Computer programming skills preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Job offer is contingent upon a satisfactory clearance based on background check results.

  • Duties may require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18). Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form is required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $45,999 - $54,079 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $22.03 - $25.90

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
