Summary:
The Patient Access Team Leader is a working resource for the patient registration teams. Assists with registering and admitting patients at Wayne UNC. Coordinates work assignments during the shift(s), monitoring of real time registration performance with audits and productivity measures, ensures departmental standards and procedures are followed, and resolves insurance verification and registration billing issues. Serves as a point of contact for both internal and external customers for the assigned shifts in the Patient Access Department for Teammates and PFS Leadership. Resolves or escalates problems as needed on the front end. Participates in the interviewing process for new hires within the Patient Access department.
Responsibilities:
1.Coordinates and organizes assignments of the Patient Access Specialists in collaboration with department leadership.
2.Assists Patient Access Specialists with registration responsibilities. Serves as a resource and role model for the group.
3.Assists with onboarding of new teammates and required training activities.
4.As a Patient Access Specialist, ensures all patients have a complete and accurate registrations and admissions in EPIC.
5.Ensures insurance coverages are active and the filing order is correct.
6.Completes registration-related Work Queue assignments provided by supervisor/manager.
7.Completes basic screening for Medicaid eligibility and financial assistance.
8.Abides by the Wayne UNC - Financial Clearance Collections Policy.
9.Consistently satisfies goals pertaining to productivity and quality expectations.
10.Reviews/signs/commits to the Patient Access Work Standards.
11.Completes & signs off on the Daily Duties Sheets. Serves as a super user for EPIC
12.Follows and abides by all Medicare (CMS) policies, Joint Commission, HIPAA, & EMTALA regulations.
13.Reviews Patient Access Weekly Huddle Minutes to ensure updates/changes are communicated to the department teammates for work processes, Epic changes, department meetings, training classes, etc.
14.Actively participates and supports the staff huddles & mandatory meetings. Serve on committees as needed and required.
15.Attends training as needed for job or regulatory requirements at Wayne UNC.
16.Proactively keeps department leadership updated and informed regarding any issues, problems or concerns.
17.Presents and promotes a professional customer- service demeanor with patients and teammates at all times, establishes high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems.
18.May float to either Admitting/Emergency Departments as well as any additional departments if needed to assist with shift/fluctuation in patient volumes.
19.Will need to assist department staffing needs by being on stand by or on-call.
20.Completes any other miscellaneous duties needed for operational needs.

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required, any higher education from an accredited college will supersede this requirement.
Licensure/Certification
None required.
CHAA, CRCR or CRCS is preferred.
Experience
Minimum 3-5 year experience in a patient registration or admitting clerk role required.
Bi-lingual language skills are a plus.

*Computer literate. Basic knowledge of MS Outlook and able to learn new software rapidly.
*Previous Electronic Health Record (i.e., Epic) experience required.
*EPIC training completed for ADT Central/ED Registrar and Admissions
Valid NC Driver's License: No
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
