NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$114,000 - $193,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

Want to join Sandia National Laboratories as a Manager, Communication & Marketing, leading innovative internal communications strategies, harnessing modern multimedia tools, and shaping narratives for a multigenerational workforce, all while aligning with Sandia's critical national security mission? If so, Group 00150, Communications, is currently seeking an experienced and innovative Manager to lead one of three internal communications departments.

The selected candidate will team with other communications leaders and employees to envision and provide strategic internal communications, develop innovative tactics for a multigenerational and hybrid workforce in multiple locations and help lead the Communications group in strategic decision-making.

This position supervises the work of about 12 program communications specialists, who create communication products for three divisions and to the Labs' 17,000 employees.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:



  • Lead the department in the planning, production and publication of a wide range of communication products mainly for internal audiences.

  • Move away from corporate-speak emails to bring innovation to division communications, using new tools - video, graphic animation and podcasting - to gain visibility for our messages.

  • Create an employee culture through internal communications that carry a positive tone, use modern approaches and are aligned with Sandia's national security mission and security and safety objectives.

  • Manage the internal communications programs, including developing project plans, budgets, structures, processes, policies, schedules and staffing requirements.

  • Build trusted partnerships with managers and staff across Sandia and within the center, including Media Relations, Creative Services, Strategy, Information Technology, Government Relations and other professionals to facilitate consistent messaging, communications, branding and strategy.

  • Manage hiring, performance and professional development within department.

  • Coordinate with all levels of management to deliver information that is strategically aligned to mission goals and determine how best to implement official communications targeted to both internal and external audiences.

  • Develop and maintain communications and business metrics to inform communications strategy and tactics.



The selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.

Qualifications We Require:



  • A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Technical Writing, Humanities, Science-related, or a related field.

  • 8 years related experience working in journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing.

  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.



Candidates who reach the formal interview stage will be required to share samples that provide evidence of professional-level communications experience and abilities, particularly communicating complex topics with clear writing and storytelling.

Qualifications We Desire:



  • A Master's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Technical Writing, Humanities, Science-related, or a related field.

  • 2 years demonstrated leadership experience, including managing internal communications in a matrixed environment, marketing teams, or media leadership positions.

  • Experience with a wide range of responsibilities for internal communications products.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills; advanced knowledge of Associated Press style.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills; the demonstrated ability to lead a team to develop and complete communications campaigns and strategy in collaboration with multiple levels of management and staff in a large organization with many competing priorities.

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment while handling sensitive information.

  • Demonstrated skills on prioritizing work, meeting multiple, hard deadlines, managing projects, and adapting to other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Oracle, and Word Press Multisite.



About Our Team:

The Communications Group is responsible for public and Labswide communications functions, including emergency and crisis communications and media outreach, for a nearly $5 billion national security lab with a workforce of approximately 17,000. The internal communications department consists of three teams of division communications professionals who focus on facilities, safety, security and IT and also assist with Labswide campaigns. They provide communications planning and strategy, writing and editing, document control and publication support services.

Security Clearance:
