Supports corporate objectives and ensures quality health care by providing physician oversight of Behavioral Health utilization management, care management, and quality of care.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, the UM Director, Associate Medical Directors and others as necessary to ensure the integrity of medical and clinical decisions
  • Respect confidentiality and maintain confidences as described in the UHG Employee Handbook and acknowledged through signature by all employees. The ability to maintain confidentiality is a critical and essential component of this position
  • Provides physician input to clinical and medical services and interfaces with contracting facilities and providers on medical and behavioral health issues
  • Participate in the development and implementation of behavioral health policies, practices, and standards for care to manage utilization and improve the quality of behavioral health services provided by facilities
  • Provide medical and behavioral health expertise to clinical staff regarding complex behavioral health cases
  • Review Utilization Management preauthorization, concurrent and retrospective requests, as well as Appeals to prior decisions
  • Participate in the development or revisions of measures to improve utilization, reduce costs, improve quality of care, and improve member health status
  • Work with individual providers and psychiatric facilities to establish strong relationships that are conducive to the growth of the health plan and membership
  • This position may require travel. If the employee chooses to satisfy this requirement by driving a vehicle, the employee must meet the requirements for Colorado licensure and company requirements for liability insurance coverage
  • Complete all duties in accordance with company safety policies and practices
  • Other functions may be assigned and management retains the right to add or change the duties at any time

Required Qualifications:



  • Active/unrestricted Colorado Medical Licensure
  • Active/unrestricted ABMS/AOBMS Board Certification



Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of clinical experience in the field of psychiatry, Board Certification
  • Managed care experience

  • Ability to travel within the State of Colorado if needed
  • Ability to be exposed to changing weather conditions
  • Ability to travel between various locations and to timely arrive and depart from various locations
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including before and after core business hours and occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and keyboard, sitting and/or standing up to 8-10 hours per day (possibly longer if required)
  • Ability to see computer screen and work papers
  • Ability to access, research and interpret information from a variety of media (e.g., computer screen, projected images, printed material) and individuals
  • Ability to work in normal office environment conditions and with various office equipment (e.g., computer, keyboard, mouse, calculator, copier, printer, fax, scanner, telephone)
  • Ability to move to access various offices and a wide variety of meeting settings
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending and twisting, occasionally climbing stairs or using an elevator, possibly reaching chest high and overhead for materials

The salary range for this role is $269,500 to $425,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
