Position Highlights

University Facility Services is seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Plumber to oversee and participate in the repair, maintenance, inspection, and installation of plumbing systems across campus. This position will provide leadership to a team of journey-level plumbers and trades helpers, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serves as a technical resource to the Plumbing Shop.
  • Assigns and inspects the work of the Plumbers and Trades Helpers prioritizing and assigning tasks so that the team's resources are used effectively and that work schedules and targets are met.
  • Plans and develops work schedules, equipment usage schedules, and procedures for equipment maintenance.
  • Determines material and labor estimates.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains chilled water, steam, heat, water, gas, drainage, sewage, and other plumbing systems.
  • Operates reamers, threading dies, sewer machines, pipe cutters, snakes, and other plumbing equipment and hand tools.
  • Inspects joints, valves, pumps, boilers, heaters, sinks, commodes, tanks, valves, and other plumbing system components to locate, malfunctions and repairs or replaces when necessary.
  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance works as required.
  • Will communicate with the customer on jobs being performed, time frames, and follow up to make sure team is doing a satisfactory job.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, and sewage systems.
  • Knowledge of material standards and specifications for pipes, fittings, and fixtures.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment required for plumbing tasks, such as wrenches, pipe cutters, soldering tools, plungers, and pressure gauges. Understanding of safety practices related to the use of these tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and building plans to understand the layout and installation requirements of plumbing systems.
  • Skill in installing and repairing pipes (both rigid and flexible), fittings, and fixtures, including cutting, welding, and threading pipes.
  • Proficiency in using power tools such as pipe benders, cutters, and threading machines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Apprenticeship program,
    technical training experience required.
  • Valid AZ Driver's license with the ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Plumbing Leadership experience.
  • Experience working in a college/university setting.
  • 10 years of plumbing experience.
