Essential Job Duties
Join our team as a Trade Crew Lead - Architectural/Mechanical Technician in the Construction Shop, where you will lead renovation projects and oversee a skilled team in transforming institutional office and lab spaces. This role provides an exciting opportunity to utilize your expertise in construction, remodeling, and mechanical trades while mentoring and developing team members. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Oversee and mentor a team, guiding architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades. Assist with training programs and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

  • Coordinate and manage renovation projects, ensuring work is completed efficiently, on time, and within specifications.

  • Perform and oversee demolition, framing, drywall installation, ceiling systems, plumbing, electrical work, and finishing.
  • Work with the Construction Shop Manager to develop daily work schedules, allocate resources, and manage material procurement.

  • Provide project updates to management, communicate with building liaisons for access, and coordinate with other teams on system shutdowns and utility disruptions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, ensuring project compliance with materials, safety standards, and quality control.
  • Identify and coordinate necessary manpower, tools, and equipment for successful project completion.

Other Responsibilities

  • Understanding of materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety is necessary
  • This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule.
  • This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in the trade(s) areas assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and the general public, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions related to all trade issues in an institutional setting.
  • Experience in architectural renovation practices.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and 60-90 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in architectural and renovation practices in a university or commercial setting.
Required License or Certification
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
