A Pipefitter Foreman supervises and coordinates the activities of a team of pipefitters in the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems across various projects. This role involves overseeing the work to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with project specifications and regulatory standards. The foreman is responsible for assigning tasks via work orders, closing work orders when completed, ordering materials for the team when out of stock, managing workflows, guaranteeing team is up to date with all required learning modules, and ensuring that deadlines are met.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Pipefitter Foreman responds to requests for maintenance and repairs to heating, cooling, compressed air, and gas piping systems including specialized systems such as medical gases, high temp hot water, cooling equipment, cooling systems, pneumatic and cooking piping systems. The Foreman inspects the work site to determine methods of repair. The Foreman then arranges for supplies, tools and the level of manpower needed to successfully complete the work. The Foreman assigns pipefitters to specific tasks and supervises these activities. The Foreman also assists in the layout and fabrications. Provides for the transportation of tools, equipment, and materials to the job site. The Foreman also orders materials including tools necessary to complete the work and coordinates the activities of the Pipefitters to coincide with those of other crafts as required in the completion of the work.
  • The Pipefitter Foreman is responsible for supervising the installation of new systems and remodeling of existing systems. The Foreman orders necessary supplies and materials required for the installation of new work and the remodeling of existing systems and assigns and supervises the activities of Pipefitters included in the installation of new piping systems and equipment. The Foreman coordinates the activities of the Pipefitters with those of the other crafts involved in multiple craft projects.
  • Performs related duties as required, which can include the ordering of materials, preparation of daily timecards, approving request for time off and coordinating with the Assistant Chief Engineers in the preparation of estimates and scope of work statements. The Foreman is responsible for the adherence to work rules and policies by the craftsmen assigned in the Pipefitter classification.


  • Minimum Qualifications Required:


    1. A. Certificate of completion of Pipetrade apprenticeship under a registered Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program AND four (4) years (48 months) of applicable experience.

    OR

    B. Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Pipefitter or other Pipetrade classification with a minimum of nine (9) years (108 months) of actual work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Pipefitters, Pipefitter Welders, Refrigeration Mechanics, Temperature Control Mechanics, Sprinkler Fitters, and/or Oil Burner Mechanics.
