Position Summary:

The Engineering Technician I is responsible for operating test instruments, tools, and prototype hardware, will execute basic tests according to prepared plans then data collection, analyzes, and the presentation of test results. This entry-level position is generally intended for relatively recent graduates with an associate degree. This position is embedded within a product development team and provides hands-on technical support for the development of firearms, sound suppressors, and firearms accessories.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Reads blueprints and inspects simple parts for design compliance using basic inspection tools. Generates simple CAD layouts of test fixtures.
  • Completes CAD revisions as directed.
  • Will analyze collected data from prepared test plans prior to presenting test data.
  • Occasionally updates Engineering Bills of Material.
  • Assists in writing test plans.
  • Assembles and maintains prototype firearms, suppressors, and firearms accessories to conduct test (firing and non-firing) according to standard procedures.
  • Uses data collecting instrumentation (sensors, chronographs, high speed video cameras, etc.)
  • Creates and maintains test firing logs.
  • Assists in troubleshooting and failure mode identification.
  • Completes assigned range procedure and test equipment training.
  • Acquires prototype parts from internal and external sources.
  • Engages in and actively volunteers for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
  • Participates in and sustains 5S.
  • Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
  • Must be able to travel.

Education/Experience & Skills:



  • Associate degree or equivalent undergraduate coursework highly preferred, or High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency using CAD software to create parametric solid models and associated drawings preferred (SolidWorks highly preferred).
  • Ability to generate simple CAD layouts of test fixtures and to complete CAD revisions as directed preferred (SolidWorks highly preferred).
  • A basic understanding of manual machining tasks is preferred.
  • Prior test experience including data analysis and report writing preferred.
  • Must be able to convey ideas and information clearly, concisely, and accurately to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is preferred.
  • Experience using and maintaining firearms is preferred.


Working Conditions:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
