Role:

As the Zone Leader of the department, this position involves leading a team of welders, machinists, and vacuum pump technicians. Responsibilities include manufacturing helium and vacuum tight assemblies using GTAW processes, reading blueprints, and ensuring all welds pass rigorous testing and inspections. AWS weld certification on stainless steel and steel is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following, other duties may be assigned.



  • Handle materials and tools


  • Fully competent to perform all positions on a minimum of two or more production lines in the facility


  • Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to responsibilities


  • Read and interpret blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific welding requirements, TIG weld steel, stainless steel and copper components based on the specifications of the blueprints and/or drawings


  • Weld assemblies and sub-components using the GTAW - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) processes to meet customer and internal quality standards


  • Assures parts comply to drawing specifications


  • Possess a good working knowledge of all welding procedures and applicable equipment
  • Document unit data, operating conditions, and damage.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Ensure team members are trained, follow safety protocols, and meet quality standards.
  • Plan and manage work schedules, maintain organization, and uphold 5S standards.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and performance management.



Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform

each essential duty satisfactorily.



  • Use a variety of welding equipment including TIG and Spot welders


  • Ability to work in fast paced team environment
  • Proficient in computer skills (Excel, Word, intranet).
  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills
  • Self-starter, team-oriented, and willing to learn new skills
  • Supervisory experience and effective communication
  • Able to lead, motivate and supervise zone members to achieve targets


  • Ability to safely meet physical demands of position



Education and/or Experience:



  • High School diploma or equivalent


  • 3+ years' experience in TIG welding
  • 1-2 years leadership experience


  • Ability to obtain or maintain AWS weld certification to company standards



Language Skills:



  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret written documents
  • Ability to interpret technical charts and drawings
  • Ability to respond in a professional manner to common inquiries
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
