The Fleet Training Manager oversees the team of trainers who identify training needs, develop and implement training programs, and evaluate their effectiveness. The goal is to enhance employee skills and performance while managing expenses and staying current on training trends. This role focuses on developing and educating maintenance technicians.

Responsibilities of Position:



  • Provide leadership to fleet trainers to ensure that our program meets all company and compliance standards.
  • Career Path Development: Identifying a clear career path for each technician.
  • Collaborating with management and technicians to determine training and growth opportunities.
  • MAP Program Implementation: Overseeing the implementation and monitoring of the MAP (Maintenance Advancement Program) for each technician, ensuring that progress is tracked and goals are met.
  • On-boarding & Orientation: Managing the new hire orientation and initial on-boarding for each technician. This includes training on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) training, and other Rumpke safety protocols as required.
  • Employee Development & Motivation: Assisting in the creation of a positive, team-oriented environment through effective employee development and motivation initiatives.
  • Develop an individual training program for each vehicle technician to include classroom and hands-on training for diagnostic and repair procedures.
  • Routinely conduct follow-up assessments on technicians with supervisor and manager input to measure the effectiveness of training and document progress monitoring.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to the training program as well as make recommendations to vendor-supplied training, to reflect changes in technology and/or procedures.
  • Identify and facilitate refresher training for the technicians.
  • Attend training sessions and classes provided by manufacturers and experts in the maintenance industry to stay current with the latest technology and repair procedures.
  • Assist in recruiting and interviewing potential technician and leadership candidates.
  • Prepare and submit required reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed in a safe manner and comply with all safety standards in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Supervisory Responsibility:



  • This position will manage 1 to 5 employees.
  • This position will oversee and direct other managers.



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Excellent communication, presentation, and motivational skills to train, lead, and communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with computerized systems. Computer proficiency in Windows applications, Microsoft applications, diagnostic programs for Mack, International, Cat, Allison, Bendix, and Cummins engines, and identifying the proper tool for each task.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to train and/or lead people and achieve favorable results.
  • The ability to create and maintain a safe working environment.



Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:



  • Must possess a background in electrical, hydraulic, emission control, diesel drivetrain, automatic transmissions and air brake systems, CNG experience a plus.
  • Experience in mechanical assessment and implementing improvement plans preferred.
  • 10 years of successful vehicle maintenance experience within the waste industry preferred.
  • 5 years of leadership experience is required.



Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:



  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs. Occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently working outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions.
  • Frequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
  • Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling/climbing and/or balancing.
  • Frequent sitting/standing/walking.



Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:



  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
