The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is currently seeking a
Part-Time Graphic Designer to join the Zoo's Creative Services team. The successful candidate will be a positive-minded, creative and collaborative teammate, with a strong understanding of graphic design concepts and technical proficiency.
Position Summary:
The
Part-Time Graphic Designer will report to the Creative Director. The candidate will help design and execute a wide variety of print and digital collateral in support of all Zoo departments and their respective goals. Candidate will love working in a quick-moving environment while remaining creative, flexible, organized, and smiley. The candidate will be able to visualize and follow creative direction, as well as be able to flex his or her own creative muscle as needed. The candidate will have a keen eye for quality and aesthetic, and will embrace the responsibility that comes with the very publicly-viewed nature of his or her work.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Helping provide creative graphic design solutions for print and digital collateral in support of Zoo departments and their respective goals.
* Having an awareness of design trends and enthusiastically pursuing a broad variety of ideas at the outset of any project
* Being able to present well-conceived roughs for input and feedback.
* Completing jobs within deadlines.
* Working accurately, with the highest attention to details, including proofreading.
* Helping to keep a vigilant watch over the aesthetic and physical condition of signage throughout the Zoo; helping form and execute plans of replacement and redesign as needed.
* Having strong 'craft' skills to comfortably and safely use sharp tools to create in-house signs and graphics
* Maintaining clean and clear file organization.
* Writing accurate job specifications to secure pricing.
* Properly preparing jobs for print and production, and the ability to say that three times fast.
* Performing other duties as needed to support other goals and the Zoo's mission.
* Bonus points for being comfortable around tools and engaging in light construction duties.
Qualities and Skillsets
The candidate will:
* Have a positive-minded and collaborative attitude!
* Have a degree in Graphic Design or related field.
* Be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of graphic design concepts thru a portfolio review.
* Have proficient technical command of Adobe design software, including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
* Persistently self-evaluate his/her own work.
* Remain open to constructive feedback.

Working Conditions/Other Requirements:
Employment is contingent upon passing a drug & nicotine screen and background investigation. While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, and have the manual dexterity to use computer mouse and keyboard. Incumbent must be
able to stand for long periods, walking up and down hills and will be exposed to outside weather conditions, must be able to lift/move/carry up to 25 pounds without assistance, must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable to drive a Zoo vehicle, must have reliable transportation,
must be able to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
Position Details & Benefits: Starting pay range is $21-23/hour. This position is eligible for the Zoo's benefits for part-time employees, including paid time off, park discounts, free passes and a free Metro bus pass (if needed) for the duration of employment. Hours will fluctuate based on department/Zoo needs, but will not exceed an average of 30 hours/week over the course of the year.
