Basic Job Functions:

The primary responsibility of the Sheet Metal Fabricator is to fabricate components, cut steel and or sheet metal according to the production schedule.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Operate band and chop saws, grinders, drill press, iron worker, stud welder, plasma cutter, mig welder using .035 wire (including stainless) and tig welder (aluminum) to fabricate components.
  • Measure, review and layout materials per the order specs.
  • Inspect and examine work pieces to ensure quality of material meets the requirement of the customer.
  • Keep area clean and organized.
  • Knowledge of the product flow and processes.
  • Strong mechanical background.
  • Ability to read and interpret reports, work instructions, and blueprints.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift and an overhead crane.
  • Requires operating hand tools, power tools and pneumatic tools, fabrication tools, and measuring devices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Squatting, kneeling and standing frequently.
  • This position is exposed to dust/dirt frequently and fumes, vapors and mists occasionally.
  • This position is in a manufacturing environment where the noise level is high.
