DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION


  1. Ensures seamless orientation of new and/or transferring surgical technologist staff with oversight and influence of the orientation experience.
  2. Supports and develops staff including leads, new graduates and experienced surgical technologist staff while acting as a role model for proficient clinical practice, patient safety and evidence-based practice.
  3. Supports an environment and infrastructure that promotes professional growth and advanced skills.
  4. Develops, implements, and continuously supports the department's "Grow Our Own" workforce planning and development strategy.
  5. Supports the staff development strategy in order to achieve workforce goals, quality initiatives and clinical practice, and to maintain appropriate staffing levels within the department.
  6. Critically assesses, plans, develops and delivers clinical curriculum, developmental programs and services.
  7. Facilitates learning utilizing multiple modalities.
  8. Coordinates and facilitates annual competencies. Evaluates learning effectiveness using standardized outcome measurements.
  9. Utilizes performance measures and workforce needs to drive education plans and learning strategies. Maintains appropriate documentation.
  10. Collaborates with HR, Career Institute, and hospital staff to coordinate, train, and evaluate students in technical education programs for clinical rotations/externships in cooperation with surgical services manager and other clinical staff.
  11. Collaborates with department leaders to provide educational opportunities that satisfy performance goals and objectives and enhance quality management activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or Certified Operating Room Surgical Technician (CORST) certification by National Health Career Association (NHA), or Technician in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) certification by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Five years of experience in operating room clinical practice with demonstrated proficiency in peri-operative practice as a scrub and first assistant.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR RNFA.



  • Teaching or educator experience preferred. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
