Full Time.Remote position. Clinical Informatics team. Candidates residing in the following states can be considered for remote work: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia.

The Clinical Informatics Specialist has organization-wide responsibility for workflow processes impacted by Clinical Technology across disciplines/clinical departments. Will lead/participate in implementing large clinical process change initiatives across the clinical setting in ambulatory, outpatient and inpatient departments. Responsible for performing advanced application system analysis and design to include requirements, specifications, configuration, documentation, testing, and implementation of system. Will also be involved in providing application support, troubleshooting, support training needs and reporting/analytics activities. Serves as a primary liaison/resource regarding clinical workflows and technology between TSG groups, clients and vendors.

  • Manages workflow transformation teams guiding teams through documentation and analysis of current state while identifying policy/procedure needs. Develops detailed workflow diagrams to depict and document future state workflow including data requirements to 'measure' overall adoption of the desired state. Works with stakeholders to develop needed policies/procedures as needed.
  • Works with clinical stakeholders to identify and lead opportunities to optimize workflows through the use of technology to support strong evidence based clinical practice.
  • The Sr. Clinical Informatics Specialist will collaborate with the HR Education team to ensure educational content reflects agreed up workflows as well as technology functional training requirements for all projects or optimization requests.
  • The Sr. Clinical Informatics Specialist will participate on assigned Carilion Clinic committees as an active member in order to identify and provide support to clinical end users with optimization requests and reporting/analytics needs.
  • Applies an understanding of lean and quality improvement (DMAIC) principles to workflow assessments including the integration of data into the overall plan while working closely with Quality/Performance Improvement teams.
  • Maintains an advanced and comprehensive knowledge of specialty area, demonstrated by an understanding and use of the general principals, theories, and practices pertinent to the work specialty.
  • Works closely with both internal and external clients to build and maintain effective working relationships. Has an understanding of client needs and provides appropriate guidance and support.
  • Prepares status reports and other documentation requested by management in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates accountability for self-development by providing input into personal annual skills assessment and development plan.
  • Adheres to the application change management process to include timely reporting of all pertinent change information, effective discussion of the changes, internal and external communications, contingency planning, support of the change event and post-change reporting, as appropriate
  • Acts as a liaison and represents the system users/customers in all clinical project initiatives.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary and process improvement teams to identify potential uses of the information systems and potential improvements in current use of systems.
  • Leads clinical projects that drive workflow transformation and process improvements.
  • Mentors and precepts Clinical Informatics Specialist to serve in a facilitator/coordinator role on a clinical, functional and/or technical team
  • Demonstrates understanding of the basic ITIL framework.
What We Require:

Education: Master's degree required in Nursing, Informatics or other clinical discipline.

Experience: Seven years of experience required with a minimum of 2 years in a clinical or project leadership role. Experience with quality improvement/lean projects required.

Licensure/certification: Current Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse or Registered Respiratory Therapist required (Or Compact State). Maintains specific Vendor related application certifications.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must be a self-motivated team player that can work under little supervison, with strong organizational and analytical skills. Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting and serve as a mentor to others in the department. Must be capable of prioritizing multiple projects and meeting deadlines. Must demonstrate knowledge and competency in the following areas: satisfactory completion of orientation; positive interpersonal and communication skills; critical analysis skills; ability to resolve complaints/problems; customer-focused philosophy of service delivery; meeting facilitation; conflict resolution; demonstrate ability to use technology and appropriate software to support daily activities; maintain clinical competency by meeting ongoing clinical hour requirements in current department as defined by leadership. Must be able to obtain designated product proficiency. Demonstrated understanding of quality improvement principles (Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC etc.). Flexible scheduling and travel required.
