Job Details:

Purpose

This position supports the LBJ School of Public Affairs Assistant Director for Business Services. The Senior Financial Analyst is a key member of the Business Affairs team, responsible for processing financial transactions, preparing reports, and relieving the Assistant Director with other financial activities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development of the annual operating budget, providing guidance and support to all departmental personnel. Communicate budget processes and procedures to departments and provide problem-solving assistance throughout the budget calendar year. Communicate final budgets to departments and help facilitate annual Tableau budget load and implementation.

  • Manage records, spreadsheets, databases, and other resources to effectively document and monitor budgets as assigned. Prepare routine financial reports and presentations to inform senior leadership of the status of funds and variance to budget. Review and reconcile detailed monthly departmental transaction reports. Carry out ad hoc reporting and analysis in support of LBJ initiatives, including financial modeling of new business proposals.

  • Conduct detailed financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and forecasting. Review and analyze budget variances against plans and forecasts to aid senior leadership in programmatic and business decisions. Request budget/account transfers as appropriate.

  • Work with the School's Chief Business Officer as needed on other accounting-related duties, such as developing and preparing financial reports and projections using existing tools such as Excel, Define, and VIP.

  • Execute funding allocations for all center personnel, including appointments, scholarships, fellowships, tuition, fees, and related funding. Serve as contact for tuition bills and supplemental funding requests. Collaborate with team, department, college, and associated offices to troubleshoot and solve related issues.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement needs and initiate actions in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Business Affairs.

  • Serve as backup to the Assistant Director and members of the Business Affairs team.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of five years of related work experience demonstrating increasing responsibility.

  • Broad knowledge of financial planning and budgeting, superb analytic, project management, and presentation skills, and demonstrated knowledge of and experience managing financial planning.

  • Strong organizational skills, a flexible work style, and the ability to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to self-direct learning opportunities. High level of proficiency in other Microsoft Office programs: PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to be resourceful and proactive and also perform at a high level with little requirement for supervision.

  • Dedicated to working as a member of a collaborative team.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

An advanced degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.More than five (5) years of professional experience with a combination of financial analysis and reporting. Tableau experience. Experience working at UT Austin or within a university setting. Experience with UT Austin policies and procedures.

Salary Range

$68,000 + depending on qualifications
