The Actuarial Data Lead provides critical support for the actuarial team at Argo. We seek an individual who can direct a team of data professionals responsible for managing and maintaining actuarial data for Argo's pricing and reserving functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Leads the strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology systems, as appropriate, for the Actuarial department
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and enhancement of analytics, data management, modeling analyses, and ad hoc work products into system-based solutions.
  • Participate in projects that support the analysis, evaluation, and modeling of potential solutions, analytical methods, and processes that enable meeting the financial profitability and strategic goals of the company.
  • Create data sets to be used by the Actuarial department that combine multiple complex data sources into a format that is suitable for analysis.
  • Lead the team in the architecture/design and building of new automated solutions and procedures for the Actuarial department.
  • Train users of new and enhanced system solutions, tools, and advanced data, specific to daily tasks.
  • Contribute to the evaluation, selection, implementation, and maintenance of the enterprise internal information systems by supporting the evaluation of alternatives and performing appropriate cost/benefit analysis.
  • Act as liaison for the Actuarial department on enterprise-wide information technology discussions. Maintain current knowledge of trends and products in the system technology industries and address the need to develop of new methods, products, and procedures.
  • Acts as subject matter expert on internal data sources and data collection applications (both claims and underwriting) and their impact on actuarial tools and work products.
  • Be a steward of data quality at Argo; identify issues and areas for improvement. Take known issues to Data Governance and represent the Actuarial department in efforts to correct data issues and promote data quality for the broader organization.
  • Explore alternative internal and external data sources.
  • Collaborates in a team environment with Actuarial, IT, Claims, Finance, and Underwriting colleagues.



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's Degree, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Finance related.
  • Minimum of 7 years of P&C experience and broad overall knowledge of P&C Insurance.
  • Understanding of common actuarial methodologies.
  • In depth analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Experience with multiple coding languages (SQL, Python, R, VBA, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to document databases, formalize data processes, and develop self-service reporting tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to management and other functional areas.
  • Ability to interact and work within a team environment and approach actuarial work as a collaborative product.
  • Proven ability to lead teams to complete concurrent projects on time with tight deadlines.
  • Experience with managing multiple monthly processes in Production and Development areas, including a ticketing system for bugs/enhancements.
