Job Announcement

Provides exceptional customer service to residents and businesses at the department's full-service counter. Applies comprehensive knowledge of the statutory requirements and established policies and procedures for all tax types to explain tax liabilities and resolve complex inquiries related to assessments, billing, payments, waivers, collection issues, and other matters. Assesses, adjusts, and updates tax records, as necessary. Processes payments for real estate and tangible property taxes, business licenses, dog licenses, parking tickets and other miscellaneous revenues received in person and by mail. Accepts payments by cash, check, money order, and credit/debit card, and issues receipts. Accurately balances daily receipts against monies collected and balances cash drawer, reconciling discrepancies. Provides critical support in other sections throughout the agency. Maintains the highest degree of courtesy and professionalism when responding to inquiries or resolving difficult disputes. Meets defined departmental productivity standards and maintains confidentiality regarding all systems and data. Works with various levels of management and other personnel in performing other assigned duties.

Note: The assigned functional areas of this position include general administrative support, customer service, tax administration, and/or debt collection.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and three years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of experience providing administrative support within the assigned functional areas.
  • Three years of experience handling cash and balancing cash drawers.
  • Three years of experience providing front-line customer service, to include responding to internal and external customer inquiries, face-to-face, by telephone, or in writing; experience in dispute resolution.
  • Three years of experience performing reconciliation of financial transactions.
  • One year of experience working with state and local laws regarding the assessment and collection of real
    estate, tangible property, and business license taxes.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office computer software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience meeting multiple deadlines; preparing and maintaining accurate records; working in a fast-paced environment; exercising tact and courtesy when dealing with citizens and handling confidential information; working in a team environment; providing a high level of customer service.
  • Self-motivated team player with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written
    communication skills; punctual and dependable.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multitask.
  • Exhibits great attention to detail and accuracy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, or bending. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
