Description The Clinical Research Occupational Therapist provides advanced skills, structured assessments, education and advanced therapy services to a wide spectrum of infants and children, across healthy and high-risk populations. Utilizes knowledge in evidence based and current practice standards for infant and pediatric care, serve as an educator for research patients, families, staff and providers, assume primary responsibilities for a specialty area, work well with interdisciplinary team members and act as a mentor to other health care professionals.

Applies program management practices, including the design, implementation and evaluation of new clinical research programs and procedures. Models professional behavior in all interactions and will work collaboratively with leadership and program manager to provide updates for clinical and administrative operations. Assists investigators with funding proposals and research designs specific to behavioral interventions and assessments and create project plans with milestones, deliverables and accountability assignments.
Qualifications

Minimum Work Experience
3 years pediatric experience with a minimum of 3 years experience in neonatal-infant therapy (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge and experience in program design and project management
Knowledge of specialized neonatal therapy interventions and infant development.
Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis for clinical research projects
Experience in developing and implementing training modules for patients, families and staff
Verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal/human relations skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Knowledge of specialized medical/scientific terminology.
Ability to work as a member of team.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Occupational Therapist Must have DC license and be willing to apply for license in Virginia and Maryland Upon Hire (Required) Advanced certification in neonatal therapy required Upon Hire (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Clinical Research Skills and Expertise



  • Perform clinical research interventions on research participants.


  • Communication with research team and families of research participants.


  • Educate clinicians and families of research participants on research interventions.


  • Train and supervise new staff on neurodevelopmental assessment.


  • Utilize telehealth technology as needed.


  • Design and implement clinical research interventions for early neurodevelopment.


  • Comply with departmental policies and procedures for inpatient and outpatient documentation.


  • Maintain and keep research records and logs.


  • Utilize the electronic medical record to retrieve research data.


  • Complete all administrative assignments to include documentation, parent reports, assessments and requested operations input on time.


  • Participate in data collection on research projects and PI initiatives.


  • Identify need for revision to current policies and procedures to reflect update in care and best practice.


  • Follow existing research protocols.


Service/ Program Administration and Implementation



  • Assist Director in development, implementation and evaluation of services, programs, policies and procedures, and performance standards to achieve departmental goals.


  • Develop and implement systems to monitor and improve performance and service quality.


  • Troubleshoot operational issues and develop action plans to resolve; collaborate with director on significant operational issues/barriers.


Program Evaluation & Enhancement



  • Assist in the development, evaluation and implementation of new services and research program protocols and partnerships.


  • Evaluate and recommend purchase of new equipment needed to maximize productivity and quality of care.


  • Work with the Director to develop evaluation tools to measure each aspect of program delivery.


  • Monitor monthly performance reports and actively work to maximize subject participation and retention.


Grants and Project Management



  • Assist Principal Investigators in identification of new sources of funding and write template proposals specific to physical, occupational and behavioral interventions and assessments.


  • Assist Foundation to prepare grant reports two weeks prior to due date, include expense report/statements for director's edit and approval.


  • Develop business plans for new programs, sites, or equipment.


  • Create project plans with milestones, deliverables, and accountability assignments.


  • Deliver projects on time and on budget.


Professional Growth



  • Presents and participates in clinical laboratory meetings.


  • Participates in Research, PI project or grant writing as a planner or principle investigator resulting in formal presentation, poster or publication in a recognized professional organization.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Perform research and strategies planning with research leadership, including stakeholder engagement.
  • Assist in identifying staff education and clinical development needs and suggests viable improvement.
