The Role

Reporting to the VP/Deputy General Counsel, this role is responsible for managing and handling legal support for one or more regions within Lumen's Strategic Enterprise sales channel. This role includes individual responsibility for a high volume of diverse customer contracts supporting Lumen Sales executives and personnel within the assigned region(s). The successful candidate will also lead and manage a team of attorneys and contract negotiators/analysts supporting Lumen Sales personnel through drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements with enterprise customers. Management includes training, guidance, escalation support, back-up, streamlining of processes, and workload prioritization. The position will directly support SVP and VP sales leaders and will have executive visibility.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Responsible and accountable for resource planning, work-product, direction, management and performance of a high-performing group within the Legal Department. Analyzes cost effectiveness of activities within that group and explores transformational opportunities.
  • Possesses excellent management and people skills and effectively collaborates across many functional areas within Lumen.
  • Has a proven consistent track record of sound judgment and strong legal skills, excellent drafting skills and a deep understanding of the business.
  • Efficiently manages a high volume of complicated and material deals with urgency and with very limited supervision. Consistently produces work product that demonstrates advanced skills in the following areas: (i) subject matter expertise, (ii) analysis and creativity, (iii) oral and written communications and advocacy, and (iv) client management.
  • Is perceived by colleagues and clients as one who leads by example, is mature, a team builder, problem solver, a mentor to junior members of the department, and has the ability to continue to develop themselves and others.
  • Provides legal counsel to the corporation; assesses and effectively manages legal risk; conducts legal analyses; negotiates legal transactions; and advises business units, including their senior leaders, on strategy and potential legal solutions. Handles significant, complex and high-profile legal matters. Proactively identifies issues and suggests and implements solutions. Functions as a strategic partner with business units and peers to help formulate strategies to promote success and mitigate liabilities.
What We Look For in a Candidate

Required

  • J.D. degree and licensed to practice law by the State Bar in the state where the attorney is located
  • Currently working as a practicing attorney
  • Generally, 12+ years of relevant or applicable legal experience
  • Experienced in advising all levels of an organization, handling negotiations directly and effectively, and solution-oriented
Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$171,447 - $228,596 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$180,020 - $240,026 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$188,592 - $251,456 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
