This announcement will be used to establish an eligibility list of qualified candidates.


Incumbents in this class normally work in a small crew setting and on off-hours shifts to perform varied physical work in the maintenance of varied concrete and related structures underground and above-ground in locations throughout the system.

Selection Process

This is a SEIU Local 1021 Bargaining unit position. However, All SEIU members must follow the "Bid Form Process", failure to comply will invalidate an employee's application.

The selection process will include a screening for minimum qualifications as listed in this posting and may additionally involve a skills/performance test, written exam, and/or a panel interview. Outside applicants will not be considered until all employees who have applied have been considered first.


Application Process
This is a SEIU Local 1021 Bargaining unit position. However, all full-time SEIU District employees must follow the "Bid Form" process and deposit their bids in the bid box. Failure to comply may invalidate the employee's bid. As actual vacancies occur, District employees on the internal eligibility list will be considered before outside candidates.

The Employment Office will screen Bid form applications and resumes against the minimum qualifications. Those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be referred to the hiring department for further consideration. All applicants are asked to complete the application in full, indicating dates of employment, all positions held, hours worked, and a full description of duties. Examples of Duties

  1. Receives daily work assignments from shift foreworker;

  2. Selects necessary tools, equipment and materials;

  3. Travels to assigned work sites;

  4. Cleans and clears debris, weeds, shrubbery, dead animals and other trash and obstructions from tunnels, rights-of-way, drains, grates and similar locations;

  5. Drains standing water or water seepage using hand or power pumps;

  6. Caulks or grouts cracks in walls, floors or other surfaces by selecting appropriate filler materials, cleaning and preparing surfaces to be grouted, and applying grout, mortar or other filler materials following manufacturer's instructions;

  7. Breaks out existing concrete, asphalt or other surfaces using hand or power equipment; excavates and grades areas for proper configuration or drainage;

  8. Reads diagrams and specifications to determine appropriate measurements; erects wooden forms or supporting structures for concrete work;

  9. Pours and finishes concrete for retaining walls, walkways, etc.;

  10. Applies and finishes asphalt surfaces as required;

  11. Erects, dismantles and works from scaffolding as required;

  12. Places and dismantles shoring in underground trenches; cleans up work site after completion of assigned work;

  13. Maintains tools and equipment in a clean and orderly condition;

  14. Reports the need for additional maintenance or repair to foreworker.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade and one year of experience which will have provided a familiarity with semi-skilled heavy construction and maintenance procedures, equipment and supplies.

Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must have physical capability to perform strenuous physical labor, including sufficient
  • Strength to lift sacks of cement weighing up to 90 pounds. Must be willing to work weekends and off-hours shifts.
