Job Overview

The Buyer is the primary contact responsible for overseeing and organizing fabricated goods, collaborating with various suppliers across multiple projects with little oversight, including components for PCB assembly. Accountable for ensuring on-time delivery (OTD), maintaining quality standards, managing costs, and fostering vendor relationships through negotiation, teamwork, and strong communication skills.

A Day In The Life

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Selecting and developing suppliers, focusing on cost reduction, quality and on-time delivery.
  • Analyzing and evaluating materials and products.
  • Creating and preparing cost reduction projects.
  • Handles procurements for build-to-print-parts after determining price and availability through formal and informal requests for quotes (RFQs).
  • Proficient in procuring active components, passive elements, and electromechanical parts.
  • Perform standard purchasing process; review requisitions and placing PO's.
  • The buyer will negotiate with suppliers on all conflicts and/or questions concerning pricing, delivery dates, quality and required packaging.
  • Verifies receipt of materials and approves invoices for payment as required.
  • Research and provide constant feedback to department and management relative to material shortages and supplier's capacity and capabilities.
  • Analyze with Purchasing Manager and Engineering to suggest alternate components, due to excessive lead time or obsolescence.
  • Act as a liaison between vendor and engineering to evaluate technical questions.
  • Ability to prioritize with vendor and expedite material under lead time.
  • Process non-conforming material requests (MRBR) and RMA requests with distributors/vendors, in a timely manner.
  • Maintain appropriate lead time and pricing in SAP.
  • Ability to handle multiple vendors/priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Have effective communication skills with all levels of employees and management. High degree of confidence, objectivity, diplomacy and ethical conduct is essential.
  • Works overtime on an as-needed basis.
  • Comply with all work instructions, including but not limited to, the Company's safety and attendance policies.

What will help you thrive in this role?

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma required. 5 plus years in a manufacturing environment with progressive responsibility required. College/Universitydegree is desired.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE



  • Strong Negotiating and Problem-solving skills
  • Efficient organization and time-management skills
  • SAP, Six Sigma, APICS, CPIM Certification is a plus.
  • Ability to identify electronic and mechanical components; familiarity with purchasing and inventory control procedures in a manufacturing environment; familiarity with a fully integrated computing system.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints/technical drawings and specifications desired
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-stress environment
  • Ability to use computers for on-line systems and for spreadsheet analysis.
  • Comprehensive understanding of MS Excel, MS Word
