Position Summary: The internship position provides educational and development opportunities for individuals to work at the YMCA in order to gain business and operational experience. Individuals will gain knowledge and skills which transfer to competencies for their future employment. Duties and responsibilities vary based on assignment and needs of the YMCA department or project. Essential Functions: 1. Demonstrates behaviors and actions consistent with YMCA core values and mission. 2. Performs duties and responsibilities as outlined for the specific assignment. 3. Participates in training and application of skills necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities. 4. Communicates with identified internship supervisor reporting on progress, making recommendations, preparing reports, etc. 5. Obtains feedback from internship supervisor to enhance skill development. 6. Develops relationships with center staff and volunteers. Intern Focus Areas: Brand Experience: Assist in content creation and updating YMCA of Greater Houston website and emails. Participate in social media daily monitoring including but not limited to updating copy and graphics. YMCA Competencies (Team Leader): Mission Advancement: Models and teaches the Y's values. Ensures a high level of service with a commitment to changing lives. Provides volunteers with orientation, training, development, and recognition. Cultivates relationships to support fund-raising. Conducts prototypes to support the launching of programs and activities. Develops plans and manages best practices through engagement of team. Effectively creates and manages budgets. Facilitates change; models adaptability and an awareness of the impact of change. Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology. Qualifications: 1. Minimum age of 18. 2. High school graduate or equivalency. College course work related to assignment or project. 3. Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. 4. Good verbal and written communication skills. 5. Ability to work with a diverse population. 6. Commitment to fulfill scheduled hours to accomplish assigned duties and tasks. 7. Willingness to learn and ask questions to enhance the development process. Physical Demands: Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs). Ability to travel to various locations throughout the Greater Houston Area.
