ERG is seeking an experienced engineer or scientist to support supply chain management efforts in a chemical manufacturing environment. The qualified individual will design and implement strategies and team initiatives to meet the organization's vision, mission, and goals; be able to manage multiple efforts at the same time while collaborating ideas and resources within and across departments; and develop an understanding of processes and practices closely related to quality and safety.
This position is hybrid on-site at the federal site in Indian Head, MD, and will include interaction and support from ERG personnel at the federal site, as well as from ERG's Chantilly and Arlington, Virginia offices. Indian Head is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC, 25 miles from Alexandria, VA, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, VA.

Job Description:
  • Provide support to a division that manufactures any of the following: Torpedo fuel, propellant grains/rocket motors, igniters, aircrew escape system devices, specialty chemicals, and a wide range of explosives, grenades, bombs, warheads, sub-components, etc
  • Map and manage the supply chain of the manufacturing process, including conducting risk analysis and identifying risk mitigation strategies
  • Assess supply chain health for more than 150 subjects including raw materials, energetics, inert compounds, and other resources
  • Determine health/status of business for manufacturers and/or distributors
  • Consider the impacts of domestic and international regulations (environmental and transportation) and how these may influence the creation of one another
  • Investigate and track stockpile health for subject items/compounds which may no longer be in production
  • Identify risks associated with obsolescence within the production of subject items
  • Determine the feasibility, stability, and risks posed by utilizing foreign sources of subject items
  • Manage projects via following the Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) process
  • Collect and evaluate requirements for second sourcing including the identification of verification criteria
  • Collaborate with commercial vendors to ensure adherence to requirements and the associated verification criteria
  • Prepare presentations for multidisciplinary parties to brief them on the role of components within the overall platform
  • Define qualification test procedures to prove adherence to criteria
  • Order and review tests to confirm adherence to the test procedures, fulfillment of criteria, and end result logic checks
  • Drawing, specification, documentation collection and review
  • Requirement identification and collection
  • Complete compatibility analysis of second source products for verification
  • Review quality documents such as technical data packages (TDPs), quality project plans (QPPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and shop travelers (S/Ts) and work closely with production engineers to ensure all technical and local quality requirements are met
  • Compile and analyze data and then communicate, both orally and in writing, the results of audits, reviews, and engineering efforts
  • Design and implement strategies and team initiatives to achieve the organization's vision, mission, and goals
  • Manage multiple efforts simultaneously while collaborating on ideas and resources within the department
  • Collaborate within and across departments and develop an understanding of their processes and practices closely related to quality and safety
  • Promote a safe working environment, reduce operational costs, and address and correct possible hazards
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering or science discipline
  • 5 or more years of experience (excluding college internships) in a related manufacturing environment (e.g., energetics, chemicals/plastics, petroleum, automotive, food, pharmaceutical)
  • Knowledge of analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving techniques necessary to perform professional scientific/engineering work
  • Advanced knowledge of supply chain mapping and analysis
  • Expert knowledge of quality engineering principles, best practices and disciplines
  • Ability to make oral, electronic, and written communication presentations to technical groups.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing
  • Ability to understand and be able to participate in technical reviews such as design reviews, test reviews, production readiness reviews, and others
  • Ability to evaluate written quality or inspection procedures and production activities for adequacy via periodic audits and inspections
  • Read and interpret technical requirements such as engineering drawings, product specifications, or technical manuals
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance
