Job Overview

Provide professional architectural design and construction oversight of all university capital projects including: managing all renovations, capital projects, and construction management staff, coordination and selection of nationally recognized design partners as well as local architects and engineers of record, coordination and selection of construction managers and general contractors, oversight of governmental and professional compliance requirements and related duties to assure all capital projects are effectively managed from design, thru construction, to move in and warranty period.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise and manage the capital improvement and renovation programs while maintaining a project managers manual that assures standard work and compliance with all oversight regulations with a focus on best-in-class service to the campus constituents.
  • Maintain and assure all projects follow university sustainability, design, and construction standards.
  • Coordinate received program of requirements and related project requests with the Associate VP of Planning+Design+Construction (PDC), the Director of Planning, and the University Engineer to allocate appropriate resources.
  • Participate with the Associate VP of PDC, the Director of Planning, and the University Engineer in developing and maintaining long range master plan work and upkeep of the university master plan.
  • Ensure timeliness and integrity of all projects (e.g., budget, standards) and prepare for consideration projects to be executed under the basic renovations/annual modernization program.
  • Provides oversight of the design and construction phases of all projects (Schematic Design through to Project Close Out) and provides design feedback to the AVP of PDC on all major capital projects to assure alignment with the campus master plan and major capital project budgeting allocations (green box forecasting).
  • Supports Basic Renovation project budgeting and assignment of Renovation projects.
  • Supervise all construction projects budget management.
  • Supervise development and management of the capital improvement and renovation program cashflow forecast.
  • Supervise work of project managers and construction administrators managing the university construction projects from design to completion.
  • Supervise development of project management tools and software platform.
  • Accomplish acute awareness to safety in the workplace in relation to both design and construction.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Similar Planning or Engineering.

Required Experience

Seven (7) years of related experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Licensed architect or engineer.
  • Experience in planning and management of facilities capital projects program for large organizations.
