Overview

We are seeking a Network Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Mission Voice Communications at the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) on Schriever Space Force Base, CO. This role supports voice and data network systems essential to missile testing operations across DoD, NASA, and international ranges. The candidate will configure, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot voice/data communications systems, while contributing to technical documentation and system administration. A mission-first attitude, professionalism, and a strong sense of integrity are essential.

A main function of this role requires periodic deployment to forward locations in support of mission voice communications aboard Missile Defense Agency vessels, the Pacific Collector and/or Pacific Tracker. Mission durations vary based on customer test schedules and may change on short notice.



Responsibilities

    Perform maintenance and upgrade of voice networks (T1, VOIP, SIP trunking, POTS) to include servers, routers, switches, firewalls, remote access systems, and network management systems.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and maintain network connectivity to ensure high quality voice and data transmission.
  • Provide technical support to other departments regarding voice networks.
  • Serve as a liaison with vendors and other third-party providers.
  • Design, develop, and implement customized technical documents.
  • Gather information about needs, objectives, functions, features, and requirements.
  • Perform writing tasks for technical documents, such as user manuals, installation manuals, help documents, and tutorials.
  • The candidate should demonstrate strong planning, scheduling, and technical writing skills to create or update documentation such as SOPs, test plans, training guides, and Visio diagrams
  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot end-to-end voice circuits and communication systems, including hardware such as Compunetix platforms.
  • Administer systems running Windows, Linux, and Unix operating systems to support mission-critical communications.
  • Conduct pre-mission communication checks and verify voice instrument configurations to ensure operational readiness.
  • Design and implement new technical solutions, including system planning, procurement, and deployment.
  • Install, upgrade, and troubleshoot communications equipment at remote and on-site locations.
  • Provide user training on voice circuit equipment, headsets, and related communication tools to ensure operational proficiency.


Education/Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and posess an active DoD Secret clearance, and a valid US passport/driver's license for renting and operating vehicles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field and at least 3 years of relevant hands-on experience OR High School diploma with 6+ years of directly related professional experience in telecom or network engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting voice and data communication systems.
  • Hands-on experience with network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, and/or Unix system administration in enclave or enterprise environments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills (samples or portfolio preferred).
  • Active Security+ or equivalent certification to meet DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II requirements.
  • (Preferred) Current Computing Environment (CE) certification for Windows, Linux, or networking platforms.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, including CONUS and OCONUS travel (e.g., Alaska, Hawaii, Pacific Islands, test vessels).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds or WhatsUp Gold.
  • Prior Help Desk or end-user support experience.
  • Military experience with field deployments or communications operations.
  • Understanding of DoD test ranges and operational environments.
  • Excellent team collaboration skills with the ability to propose solutions, contribute to planning, and drive consensus.

For this role, the annual compensation range for candidates in Colorado is ($75K-$115K + overtime) *.

*Note: Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. FTI has a location-based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
