About the Department and/or College

The Assistant Director will focus on the coordination of the Peer Mentors and Money Mentors. This position is an expansion of the currently existing Red to Black Peer Financial Coaching Program. The action strategies below have been developed to communicate expectations and program direction.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Support financial well-being initiatives through strategic planning, resource management, and collaboration while delivering targeted financial literacy workshops to enhance student and family financial skills and confidence.
  • Provide one-on-one financial coaching to students and families starting at orientation and continuing throughout their time at Texas Tech University, focusing on promoting long-term financial well-being through graduation and beyond.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, and ongoing development of R2B Peer Mentors and Money Mentors, ensuring compliance with university policies while providing regular support and coaching for their professional growth. Mentors are current TTU students who implement various outreach initiatives.
  • Provide supervision to student staff, including a Research Assistant and/or undergraduate student assistant(s).
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in financial planning, higher education, or equivalent area. Knowledge of college student populations and effective financial education techniques and programs. Knowledge of college student volunteers, advisement, training, recruitment, selection, and recognition.
