Overview
Electric Boat utilizes thousands of suppliers to help build the most complex submarines in the world. Electric Boat suppliers are located throughout the United States and supply varied products that must meet our rigorous standards. The Supplier Quality Audit Team performs risk based assessments to ensure our critical suppliers meet our standards to keep our sailors safe at unforgiving depths and pressure. In addition, this team communicates lessons learned from these assessments to Electric Boat Internal and External Customers and the Supply Base. Supplier Quality ISA and Audit Department (E325) is seeking a motivated individual to lead a team responsible for Supplier Audits, Communication and Training. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and willing to explore new opportunities to improve our oversight and support of the supply base. The person who will fill this position plays a key role in development, management and oversight of suppliers as part of Electric Boat's risk based supplier auditing program. The individual will join a dynamic team with varied backgrounds to complete audits in a wide breadth of technical areas. The need for this risk based assessment approach has been recognized by senior leadership as essential to the development and sustainment of supply chain performance. Part-time Telework/work-from-home may be available when not on travel after an initial training period and dependent upon performance. Responsibilities of this position include:
Overseeing the safety, quality, and performance of approximately ten direct reports conducting Supplier Quality Audits and Assessments, developing internal and external communications to share information and lessons learned, and oversee the development and execution of training curriculum for Supplier Quality
- Hiring, onboarding, development and managing the performance of team members
- Planning, prioritizing, and execution of Supplier Quality Audits by:
- Regularly interface with Supplier Risk and Supplier Quality Engineering to develop a forward thinking schedule that optimizes oversight of our supply base
- Working closely with D325 Audit Supervisors to ensure we are optimizing our Audit Schedules to support the Supplier Quality oversight strategy
- Coordinating with Subject Matter Experts in Engineering, Procurement, Quality, and special processes (welding, NDT, materials, etc.) to identify risks to inform focus areas for Audits
- Conducting audit out briefs to key stakeholders and supply chain management
- Ensure Audit Reports accurately reflect Audit Findings and support timely notification of requests for corrective action to the Supply base
- Work with external customers and stakeholders to share best practices on process audit strategies
- Develop and execute a yearly Supplier Quality Communication Strategy
- Assist in communicating supplier quality issues across the broader Supply base
- Preparing and delivering regular updates on the progress of the group to both EB Management and our Customers
- Develop a team capable of overseeing the SQ Audit Processes (e.g. NAV and ISA) this includes identifying opportunities for improvement through 1st time Quality and Performance Metrics
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering
- 4+ Years of Engineering or Quality Experience
- Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures
- Previous experience interpreting contractual requirements, manufacturing drawings, and military or commercial specifications
- Previous work interacting with all levels of management, engineering, supervision and SMEs
- Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite and Engineering Related Software
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
- Ability to travel frequently (approx. 30% of year), including local travel
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience in Quality Engineering, Systems Engineering, and/or Waterfront Engineering
- Previous audit lead experience
- Understanding of Quality Management Systems
- Knowledge of NDT and Welding processes
- Experience in formal correspondence with our External Customers
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is highly desired
- Experience with shipyard and/or construction engineering support or naval nuclear experience
- ASQ certifications
- Project Management or "Systems" Engineering experience
- Previous certification or training in continuous improvement, root cause analysis and technical writing
- Previous work interacting with all levels of management, engineering, supervision and SMEs
- Experience interfacing with NAVSEA, SUPSHIP, or other outside customers
- Experience directly working with a supplier
