Learn more about the Pomona College Office of Human Resources here: https://www.pomona.edu/administration/human-resources About the Role The Human Resources Business Partner serves as a strategic advisor and dedicated HR liaison to the Dean of the Faculty (Academic Affairs) and Student Employment, ensuring HR practices are effectively aligned with the College's strategic priorities and operational goals. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources/CHRO, this role delivers high-quality, proactive, and solution-oriented HR support to faculty leadership, administrative staff, and student employment supervisors. The HR Business Partner works collaboratively with department leaders to address employee relations matters, guide workforce and staffing plans, support recruitment efforts, manage staff-related budgeting, and ensure the consistent interpretation and application of HR policies and procedures. By fostering strong partnerships and promoting an integrated approach to human resources, the HR Business Partner plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Academic Affairs and Student Employment, while contributing to the broader success of institutional initiatives. The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $85,000 - $104,000 annually based on experience. What you can expect to be doing:
Building and sustaining effective and collaborative relationships between the Human Resources Department and the Academic Affairs division, including faculty leadership, department chairs, and administrative staff.
- Developing close and effective working relationships with Academic Affairs, Student Employment, and other designated areas to ensure consistent implementation of HR policies, integration of HR services, and alignment of all HR activities with the College's human resources strategy and goals.
- Managing and ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement related to Student Union employment, as well as the Student Employment Handbook and College policies, while providing consistent interpretation and guidance to student supervisors and employees.
- Negotiating bargaining unit agreements as second chair, participating in meetings between labor and management, monitoring and recording Union release time, and coordinating the Joint Labor Management Committee.
- Providing the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources/CHRO with efficient, timely, and accurate information to support forward planning and measurement of staffing-related activities.
- Ensuring, in conjunction with the Finance Department and Budget Office, that resource requirements are processed according to financial limitations, the resource plan, and HR policy requirements.
- Collaborating with the Division/Department to build and maintain the manpower plan, coordinating overall workforce supply and demand, anticipating recruitment needs, exploring recruitment options, and assisting in organizing the recruitment process.
- Acting as the first point of contact for line managers regarding staff performance or absenteeism, assisting in resolving issues or referring to the appropriate resources.
- Acting as the first point of contact for line managers on employee relations and welfare issues, referring to the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources/CHRO when necessary.
- Supporting managers in employment legislation and dispute resolution, interpreting relevant laws, providing advice, researching employee relations cases, and attending meetings with staff and representative groups.
- Attending external and third-party hearings as appropriate and providing administrative support to the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources/CHRO, particularly in record keeping.
- Supporting and advising managers in implementing change and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborating with managers on training plans, collecting information on training needs, and attending staff development meetings as required.
- Working with managers and employees on leave-related matters including workers' compensation, disability, and accommodations.
- Contributing to and leading college or central HR projects as appropriate.
- Implementing and maintaining the highest professional standards for all HR activities in accordance with college policy and best practices.
- Performing other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources/CHRO.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, a liberal arts field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of HR management or HR generalist experience.
- A valid driver's license or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events is required.
- Two to three years project management experience.
- Demonstrated strategic mindset with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team; strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Deploy professional skills in human resource management, employment regulations, organizational change management, mediation and facilitation, and employee communication, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College's strategic interests.
- Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent/strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills.

- Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software (such as Adobe PhotoShop, Workday HCM, Internet research, menu-driven databases, social media networking). Use assigned technology/devices/equipment to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.
- Handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in related field preferred.
- A Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) with California designation is preferred.
