Description

The Town of Needham is seeking an energetic and engaged individual for the position of Recording Secretary. The Recording Secretary will take minutes for the Select Board's ad hoc committees (between one and three in total at any given time) and transcribe minutes for publication.

Schedule: 10-20 hours per month; varied schedule as position can be largely completed by viewing meeting recordings

This position is scheduled to commence on July 1, 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

These duties are a general summary and not all inclusive:

  • View recorded Select Board ad hoc committee meetings, as assigned
  • Take and transcribe meeting minutes
  • Prepare draft meeting minutes
  • Prepare final version of the meeting minutes

Requirements

The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job:

  • Completion of four (4) years of high school or equivalent
  • One to three years of basic administrative experience
  • Ability to accurately capture and transcribe minutes for public meetings
  • Ability to access virtual recordings of minutes for transcription

  • The transcription of minutes may be accomplished at a location of the Recording Secretary's choice
