Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for an experienced Pipeline Technician for our Southern California Pipeline System. You must possess trade experience in maintenance, operations and pipe fitting/welding.

Our system supplies Hydrogen gas to multiple industrial facilities in the Los Angeles area. The supply gas is fed from the Air Product's Carson and Wilmington plants. You will work both independently and with a team to uphold the highest ethical standards, consistently prioritize safety in words and actions to protect self, others and the environment.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Issue Safety Work Permits, implement Lock-Out/Tag Out, and manage field execution of maintenance contractors while working on APCI equipment.
  • Perform routine operational and maintenance troubleshoot analog and digital instrument loops.
  • Operate manual, hydraulic, and pneumatic valves.
  • Use computerized systems to enter and retrieve data.
  • Understand the following: 4-20 m/a, and 1-5V loops and Hart communications; flow measurement, differential pressure and mass flow, pipe designs; pipeline cathodic protection and weld procedures and practices; follow PHMSA 192 and 195 Pipeline Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Work safely in dynamic environments (loud, high temps, etc.).
  • Maintain training program requirements and certifications.
  • Effectively use typical test and calibration equipment, including pneumatic calibrators, Instrument calibrators, dead weight testers, multi-meters, multi-function calibrators and laptops for equipment communication.
Required Skills / Abilities:
  • This is a safety sensitive position and requires a strong dedication to safety.
  • Ability to work as a team and focus on operational excellence.
  • Ability to read and understand piping and instrumentation drawings, pipeline alignment sheets, isometric drawings, and schematics.
  • Basic computer proficiency and software knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Electrical, instrument, or mechanical maintenance experience is a plus.
  • Detail oriented and willing to document details appropriately.
  • Personal and professional integrity.
  • Have a willingness to learn and further develop technical skills.
  • Maintain customer delivery stations and automatic shutoff valves.
  • Respond to 811 One Call ticket system notifications.
  • Perform pipeline location, leak detection, cathodic protection equipment maintenance.
  • Use Air Products SAP system for PM's and work orders.
  • Working hours for this role are Mon-Fri / day shift with daily travel to customer sites and limited overnight travel as needed. This role will share on call duties with other technicians.
  • Willing to work holidays, weekends, and be on-call on nights and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
  • Climb ladders and steps.
  • Lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Look at and read a computer screen for several hours per shift.
  • Occasionally work on elevated platforms (permanent and temporary.)
  • Work in all weather conditions.
Education and Licensing Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • Trade/Technical degree or apprenticeship in a related field.
  • 5 years of Industrial experience with Operations and/or maintenance.
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in Process Technology or Engineering is advantageous and can be considered in lieu of experience.
  • SAP system experience is a plus but not required.
  • Must have a valid CA driver's license, be able and willing to drive as required, and have a clean driving record.

In California, technicians will start at $47.90-$52.93/hour plus OT and Company bonus. This is the pay range that we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
