Position Overview:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst to join the Information Technology department in a teleworking arrangement. The SOC Analyst will utilize a variety of tools to monitor Embry-Riddle networks and systems, respond to security events, and protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the University's information assets. The analyst will strive to continuously improve monitoring, detection, and mitigation capabilities.

The SOC Analyst will partner with campus IT Services, Infrastructure, and IT Applications to ensure security across the on-premises and cloud environments that comprise the University's computing environment.

Primary Job Functions, Duties, or Accountabilities:

  • Operate and utilize the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system, the application control solution, and other security systems to monitor the environment for events of interest and to respond with the appropriate action. Monitor and handle tickets and messages related to security tasks or events.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network and endpoint security measures as directed in order to protect data, software, and hardware on Embry-Riddle networks.
  • Research external trusted intelligence sources and leverage knowledge to detect events of interest.
  • Participate in projects as assigned to analyze and address security-related elements.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the responsibilities IT Security Services team.
Qualifications

Required Education: High School (or GED) level ability in grammar, spelling, basic composition, and math.

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:
* 1-3 years of experience in IT security, IT, or a related role.
* Knowledge of information security concepts for desktops, servers, applications, and networks for risk identification and mitigation.
* Familiarity with network protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, FTP, SFTP, SNMP, SMTP, SSH, SSL/TLS, RDP, HTTP and HTTPS.
* Familiarity with common information security challenges and attack patterns.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in the context of information systems.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to manage multiple priorities effectively.
* A work history of progressive experience in computing and information security.
* Ability to learn new things and keep up with the pace of change in technology.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills, such as the ability to engage with customers of varying technical knowledge to clearly define and address problems.
* Maintain cooperative working relationships across the University and with other Information Technology staff members.
* Demonstrate ability to tactfully handle difficult situations and ability to maintain composure under pressure.
* Must maintain a positive, professional image.
* Willingness to seek guidance and direction as necessary for performance of duties.

1-3 years of work experience in Information Technology, Cybersecurity or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in information technology, cybersecurity, computer science, or a related field.
* Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, GIAC GSEC, GIAC GCIH, or similar
* Experience in higher education or research institutions.
