Role and Responsibilities:



    Are you looking for a rewarding summer job where you can be part of something fun, fast-paced, and meaningful? Join our team as a Waitstaff/Kitchen Assistant at Camp Harkness, where you'll help serve meals and support kitchen operations for an energetic community of campers and staff!


    Meal Service & Support:



    • Assist with preparing and portioning food for meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and occasional snacks).

    • Help plate and serve meals in a buffet-style or cafeteria setting.

    • Set up dining tables, drink stations, condiments, and serving lines before each meal.

    • Greet and interact with campers and staff in a friendly, respectful manner during meal service.

    • Monitor food stations and refill supplies as needed to keep lines moving efficiently.

    • Support camp events and special meals (BBQs, picnics, theme nights, etc.) when needed.


    Clean-Up & Sanitation:



    • Clear tables and return dishes to the dishwashing area after each meal.

    • Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils using commercial dishwashing equipment or by hand.

    • Wipe down dining tables, chairs, serving counters, and kitchen surfaces.

    • Sweep and mop floors regularly in dining and kitchen areas.

    • Remove trash and recyclables, and ensure waste is properly sorted and disposed of.


    Kitchen Operations & Safety:



    • Assist kitchen staff with basic food prep tasks (washing produce, organizing ingredients, etc.)

    • Receive and help store food deliveries and supplies in appropriate storage areas.

    • Help maintain kitchen organization and cleanliness throughout the day.

    • Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures.

    • Use kitchen tools and equipment safely, and wear personal protective equipment as required.


    Qualifications:



    • Maintain a positive attitude and pitch in wherever help is needed.

    • Be respectful and inclusive toward campers and fellow staff.

    • Possess the ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.

    • Reliable, punctual, and eager to help wherever needed.


    Preferred Skills:



    • Previous food service or kitchen experience.

    • Familiarity with food handling and sanitation procedures.

    • Flexibility and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.


    Physical & Environmental Demands:



    • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.

    • Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying (up to 30 lbs).

    • Working in a hot kitchen environment with exposure to steam and cooking equipment.

    • Occasional outdoor work (setting up outdoor dining or assisting with special events).

    • Must be able to tolerate a camp environment that includes noise, weather changes, and daily activity.

    • Reasonable accommodations can be made.
