Job Summary

The Research Manager will be responsible for concurrently organizing and conducting longitudinal intervention research in several clinical trials. The staff supervised by the Research Manager will conduct studies that involve data collection, including neuroimaging, with healthy and impaired older adults, which requires substantial experience accommodating the needs of these participants.

The Research Manager will recruit, train, supervise and evaluate day-to-day oversight for clinical research coordinators working on these studies. Reporting to the study PI, this position will have central responsibility for ensuring CHR approval and compliance, as well as reporting data required for NIH compliance to the NIH program officials and Roybal Center administrators.

The Research Manager will be involved in research budget and staff compensation planning associated with these studies. This position will also have responsibility for enrollment and study status reporting to NIH grant tracking systems, as required by NIH program requirements.

This position will initiate and coordinate the development of software tools by contractors that facilitate improved quality and efficiency in data collection for this particular cohort of older adults. Such role requires substantial fluency in the protocols for characterizing cognitive performance of older adults and interpretations from those results, as well as UCSF CHR requirements for the conduct of research with human participants.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $160,000(Annual Rate).

Neuroscape is a translational neuroscience center within the Department of Neurology at UCSF We engage in technology creation and scientific research to better assess and optimize brain function of both healthy and impaired individuals. Neuroscape researchers engage in multiple areas of neuroscience research, including studies of attention, memory, perception, neuroplasticity, cognitive development, brain aging, non-invasive brain stimulation, neurofeedback, and psychedelics. Our research studies are supported by Neuroscape's technological innovations in interactive media & video games, virtual reality & multisensory integration, mobile technology & remote trial platforms, multimodal biosensing & advanced neuroimaging, and machine learning & signal processing. Results from our studies are applied to advance novel approaches that better assess and improve cognition in healthy populations - children to seniors - as well as individuals with a broad range of medical conditions, such as ADHD, Depression, Multiple Sclerosis, and Alzheimer's Disease. Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area.
  • Working knowledge of clinical or laboratory research, clinical trial recruitment, eligibility, protocol adherence, quality data submission and adverse event reporting.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects and meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Adaptable to quickly changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration. Demonstrated experience in training others, particularly in the field of research.
  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate issues and identify a potential solution.
  • Clear and concise communicator; good verbal and written communication skills; both.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including but not limited to: problem-solving, teamwork development, leadership, mentorship. Interpersonal skills to effectively motivate others. Works well with others to achieve common goals. Ability to cultivate relationships with multiple stakeholders at various levels of administration.
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Effectively uses campus' clinical information and documentation application programs. Proven ability utilizing clinical trial management systems.
  • Clinical Trial Professional certification from a professional society within one year in position.
