OVERVIEW
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, is responsible for performing precision work with a wide variety of tools and equipment in the repair, installation and maintenance of mechanical components in the cogeneration facility. This position is also responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of the facility in accordance with all federal and state requirements and company policies and standards.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Must be able to conduct maintenance repair functions safely, reliably, efficiently, and in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
* Must be able to identify mechanical design, machinery improvements or problems and recommends modifications necessary for resolution. Completes work orders; logging time, material and other information needed in closing a work order.
* Must be able to read, understand and interpret blue prints and mechanical diagrams.
* May work, as assigned, with outside contractors during overhauls, or other times when contractors are engaged in mechanical installations, plant upgrades or outage overhaul work.
* Keeps the facility's maintenance equipment in good repair and safe operating condition.
* Perform housekeeping and maintenance support duties as required.
* Must be able to assist in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provide analysis, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans.
* Must be able to perform tests, repairs and modifications while systems are on line in accordance with OSHA and NHPC Safety Procedures
* Understands maintenance strategies including preventative and predictive maintenance
* Must be able to organize, plan and prioritize work assignments in order to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)
* Possess a High school or vocational school diploma, or equivalent, with emphasis on mechanical skills, metal working/welding processes.
* Possess a minimum of 4 years experience as a journeyman level machinist/welder, preferably in a cogeneration power plant
* Possess demonstrated knowledge and understanding of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of a variety of co-generation plant machines and related equipment; operating principles of boilers and other power plant machinery; occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work; principles of shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas-tungsten arc welding (GTAW) welding, etc..
* Possess demonstrated capability to locate, correct and adjust defects in complex mechanical equipment; ability to perform skilled work in repairing, overhauling and maintaining co-generation plant equipment; ability to read and work from drawings, procedures, illustrations, charts and sketches; good written communication skills including keeping detailed and routine logs and records.
* Possess computer skills with proficiency in Micro Soft Office (word, excel, power point).
* Must be able to speak and/or understand English language, possess professional communication skills, both verbal and written, in order to properly communicate with plant employees and outside vendor representatives.
* Must be able to work required schedule as determined by plant operations including shift work or on-call status to respond to emergency situations as needed.
* Must be able to walk, stand, climb for extended periods of time
* Must be able to work from high locations and during inclement weather conditions.
* Knowledge of cogeneration plant safety procedure, especially in areas such as chemical handling, high energy systems, confined spaces, fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, heavy equipment, etc.
* Demonstrated capability to perform specialized maintenance and/or operational tasks on typical power plant equipment using basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists, and slings; and implements such as lances, shovels, pry bars, etc.
* Must be able to work required schedule as determined by plant operations including shift work and on-call status to respond to emergency situations as needed.
* Must be able to observe hazards and avoid accidents by following proper corrective measures.
* Must be able to pass respirator fit tests and to use respiratory protective equipment or self-contained breathing apparatus at all times.
* Must be able to perform all duties in a power plant environment which includes heat, stairs, ramps, uneven walking surfaces, noise, vibration and dust.
