Job Description

General Summary:

Vertex is seeking a talented strategic colleague to serve in a critical role supporting the Disease Strategy Team Program Office in the Office of the CEO. The Strategy & Operations Director will partner closely with a Disease Area Executive (DAE) to drive special initiatives to support a particular DST. We are seeking a candidate that has a strong track record in strategic roles, along with cross functional collaboration and effective communication skills to apply for this opportunity.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partners with DAE to lead strategic projects and high-profile initiatives

  • Act as a liaison between cross functional colleagues to ensure alignment and coordination on a wide variety of cross-functional initiatives; Attends selected meetings on behalf of DAE

  • Develops dashboards or other tools for reporting of KPIs, monitors ROI of key initiatives and identifies focus areas to drive action that accelerates our plan

  • Drives the development of high-impact executive presentations

  • Leads after action reviews of critical projects; provide recommendations for improvement of processes and systems

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Outstanding communication of information and ideas (written, PowerPoint, verbal), to varied audiences including senior and executive leadership

  • Analytical, able to glean insights from data using excel and other tools, and communicate in a compelling, visual way

  • Strong collaboration skills, with an ability to influence multiple stakeholders; builds mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members

  • Proven project management skills, including scenario analysis, business acumen and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities; adapt to new projects rapidly and effectively

  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving results

  • Self-motivated; acts independently and prioritizes appropriately; embraces unexpected changes or challenges and drives to improved solutions in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven ability to work in and influence a cross-functional team promoting collaboration and high performing team behaviors with an unwavering focus on what is best for the patients we serve

  • Consistently displays sound ethics, good judgment and demonstrates Vertex's core values

  • Strong biopharmaceutical drug discovery and development acumen across multiple disciplines

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Advanced degree (MBA, PhD, or MD) or comparable experience preferred

  • Typically 10+ years of progressive, relevant experience with demonstrated experience in strategy, project management, and organizing and directing multiple teams and departments in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals

Pay Range:

$183,800 - $275,700

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
