Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager-Social Service (Cancer Center).
Provides leadership and coordination for the development and implementation of the program, consistent with the strategic direction outlined by NYULMC Senior Leadership. In collaboration with hospital leadership, establishes priorities and implements long and short-term action plans toward the goals of the program consistent with the mission of NYU Langone Medical Center. Functions collaboratively with the Senior Director of Social Work, Medical and other Services, Nurse Managers, and other nursing leadership, to provide oversight and support for an integrated program. Collaborates and coordinates all program activities with key personnel, including training, supervision and mentoring, in departments that participate in provision of services to patients and families at NYULMC, including emergency, acute hospital, and acute rehabilitation, in-patient and out-patient. In conjunction with Hospital Administration, develops and implements strategies for marketing, research, staff and community education.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manages the positioning/coordination of staff to maintain and deliver specific program services at Perlmutter Cancer Center. Determines responsibilities and roles that can be organized with existing staff through working with other managers, physicians and community partners to determine goals and functions of the program.
- Assists in Social Work manager on-call coverage providing administrative support during evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Initiates formal and informal self-directed evaluation of the program performance. Participates in developing, obtaining, and executing research or grant funded projects.
- Maintains awareness and participates in other Departments patient safety and quality programs, annual selection and evaluation of indicators relevant to the program.
- Monitors and analyzes trends and cost effectiveness of care particularly as it relates to efficiency and performance indicators. Formulates a plan to utilize data analysis and/or research, and evidence based practice findings to improve patient outcomes.
- Works closely with the hospital ethics committee whenever there is an identified concern with the program process.
- Participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement activities and research protocols that include measuring the effectiveness of the systems. Participates in interdisciplinary quality performance improvement teams, evidence based projects and research programs that foster an environment promoting patient/family, physician and staff satisfaction.
- Assists in the development and provision of interdisciplinary and community education programs pertinent to the program and related topics.
- Serves as a clinical expert and resource for the education, mentoring and practice supervision of peers and other health professionals. Models educating patient and family to facilitate and promote healthy adjustment to new or changed expected outcomes and resulting impact on the program.
- Maintains current expertise in area of practice. Contributes to the development of knowledge through writing, research, and formal/informal presentations.
- Supports organizational and regulatory compliance policies and standards. Participates in hospital committees and councils, and represents the hospital in related community activities as indicated.
- Conducts activities in a fiscally sound and effective manner. Ensures Program compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy, relevancy and accessibility of EMR documentation.
- Develops and manages organizational systems that support overall program goals and maintains all necessary resources including advance directive documents, educational materials, EMR scanning, storage and retrieval systems, and referral mechanisms.
- Assists in the development and implementation of a viable fund-raising plan with the Office of Development. Assists in the development of a marketing strategy and public information plan with Office of Public Affairs, the Office of Strategic Planning and Business Development.
- Administers an effective Advance Care Planning facilitator referral system to optimize service to patients and families.
- Oversees the ongoing education and training of Perlmutter Cancer Center staff as it relates to the program.
- Develops and supports multidisciplinary teams across the organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master's Degree in social work and New York State licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Minimum of five years of progressive clinical experience in Social Work which includes one year in an administrative/program development, supervisory or teaching position. Previous health care experience in advanced care planning in a setting such as hospice, oncology, critical care, palliative care, or other related areas is highly desirable..
Preferred Licenses: Licensed Social Worker - NYS
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced training in oncology social work, end of life care, ethics consultation/mediation, and/or family treatment and experience as university faculty/instructor is also preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $135,541.73 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
