JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University's Office of Physical Plant (OPP), Division of Planning, Design, and Properties (PDP), seeks a highly motivated staff Landscape Architect. In this role, you will help guide the design process and collaborate with designers and campus stakeholders to help improve and maintain the high-quality campus landscapes. This position offers an opportunity to shape the built environment at one of the nation's leading universities while contributing to its legacy of excellence.

You will be part of a team that includes a senior landscape architect, the University Planner, and the University Architect. You will focus on design projects at University Park, the Commonwealth Campuses, the Hershey Medical Center, and the Dickinson School of Law. This position reports to the University Planner.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide landscape architectural services for the University Park and Commonwealth Campuses, including civic space improvements, landscape renewal projects, and planting plans, and support the implementation of the Sustainable Landscape Plan.

  • Create landscape master plans for the Commonwealth Campuses.

  • Lead or participate in meetings with university customers (Facility Coordinators, Project managers) to ensure their day-to-day needs and operations are fully realized.

  • Review consultant design work and provide construction oversight on capital projects for the University Park and Commonwealth campuses.

  • Assist in the building site selection process related to the integration within the campus grounds, impacts on campus infrastructure, and impacts on the campus tree population.

  • Participate in master and unit-level precinct plans led by hired consultants or the University Planner.

Core duties include supporting senior landscape architects in managing aspects of the exterior campus environment through the development of long-range campus planning strategies, siting new buildings, developing site/design guidelines for capital projects, developing plans for small projects, implementing campus site furnishing, planting plans, lighting, and paving systems, advocating responsible stewardship of the land through sustainable design. Supervision will be received from the University Planner and other senior professionals within PDP.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher is required, with a preference in Landscape Architecture.

  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required.

  • At least 4 years of related experience preferred.

  • A professionallicense as a Registered Landscape Architect is required.

  • This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$68,200.00 - $102,300.00
