Job Summary
The Manager of Community Engagement develops, plans, implements, and evaluates community partnership programs to the Bon Appetit Management culture. This position will be responsible for expanding Bon Appetit's sustainability-related programs in the cafes at Colorado College. This position will work collaboratively on the company's Community Partnerships program, and work with all levels of the organization, including chefs, managers, and staff, to research new opportunities to source local or sustainable ingredients, minimize waste, and raise awareness about the company's practices through campus events and campaigns. This position will also be responsible for assisting in managing the promotion of new food concepts, managing retail product and placement, driving seasonal innovations, and supporting the account in station presentations and displays.
Responsibilities
In the performance of their respective tasks and duties, all employees are expected to conform to the following:
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Interact professionally with other employees, clients, customers, and suppliers.
- Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
- Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
- Review and analyze food purchases according to the company and Colorado College's definitions of "local" and "sustainable." Create reports for Food Service supervisors and client. Recommend ideas for improvement.
- Help support operators in their monthly marketing through site visitations and account reviews.
- Analyze and report on progress achieved on defined communications strategies and objectives.
- Work closely with the Regional Marketing Manager for on-going seasonal marketing promotions.
- Build and maintain partnerships with local and sustainable vendors.
- Coordinate waste minimization initiatives.
- Plan and execute at least 1-2 events or activities per month related to sustainable dining in partnership with staff, student groups, or faculty.
- Review menu labels, signs, posters, announcements, and other publications for proper communication of sustainability initiatives.
- Prepare responses to correspondence containing routine inquiries. Works effectively and maintains good working relations with co-workers, customers, and Food Service Supervisor.
- Maintains clean and safe work environment; ability to perform the job safely.
Qualifications
- A 4-year degree in Sustainability, Culinary, Marketing, or Business. In lieu of a 4-year degree, a 2- year culinary degree or other AA degree related to Food or Business. In lieu of college education, have 3-5 years of work experience working in sustainable practices, food service, or other hospitality-related work experience.
- Knowledge of public health, environmental and social issues related to food and agriculture.
- Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
- Strong oral/written communication skills, including comfort speaking publicly. Able to speak clearly and listen attentively to staff, peers, supervisors, guests, and clients.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Ability to think critically and to effectively deal with unique challenges as they arise. Flexible availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Proficient in social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Possess a positive attitude and a willingness to with all levels of the company and within the account.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions and adapt to changing situations.
- Ability to interact with a diverse and high-volume customer base in a friendly and efficient manner.
