NDT Level III - Engineer I


Responsibilities of the NDT Level III - Engineer I:

  • Receive training in the review and interpretation of NDT requirements within customer and industry specification documents. Assist in the preparation of NDT procedures to meet requirements that will be reviewed internally by other NDT staff.

  • Become familiar with the Personnel Qualification and Certification program for qualifying NDT operators and assist in the training of NDT personnel Assist in the interface with customers and other third-party auditors regarding technical questions related to NDT.

  • Support NDT operations by assisting in training and troubleshooting as required. Review and become trained to approve UT certifications from outside testing sources.

  • Participate in the improvement and standardization of NDT processes, equipment and instrumentation based on Carpenter best practices. Interact with product metallurgists to improve product quality at Carpenter. Assist in the stabilization of NDT and other processes and implement process controls (SPC) to establish and maintain process capability using statistical methods.

  • Participate in external and internal audits of NDT operations. Assist in third party audits of NDT operations such as customer, AS9100 and Nadcap audits.

  • Assist in the establishment of a framework for gathering and synthesizing data to effectively detect and solve quality issues to prevent recurrence using appropriate quality strategies, tools, and techniques.

  • Participate in developing and implementing new NDT equipment and processes.

  • Help to establish and implement preventive maintenance, calibrations, tests, analyses, and evaluation of NDT processes.

  • Assist in maintain records, logs, and other formal documentation required for specific nondestructive calibrations, evaluations, and certification.

  • Assist in the establishment of the qualification program for nondestructive testing personnel and procedures.

  • Assist in the review of NDT specifications accompanying customer orders or inquiries and assist in the review of specification abstracts.

  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements for NDT Level III - Engineer I:

  • Four-year college technical degree required

  • Must be qualified and certifiable to NDT Level III in the UT Method as defined in SNT-TC-1A, NAS 410, as well as various customer specifications.

  • Certification in other NDT methods is a plus.

  • Basic knowledge of NDT system management, NDT audit and corrective action processes, root cause problem solving and positive employee relations practices

  • 0 to 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalent experience as determined by NDT management

  • Responds to standard requests from internal and/or external customers.

  • Ability to operate a computer workstation.

  • Ability to learn to operate various software programs to support and continuously improve the NDT processes.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.

  • Ability to work with limited exercise of judgment under direct supervision of higher-level specialist, supervisor or manager.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work safely in all production and office environments.

  • Possess working knowledge of statistical process control methods.

  • Know and adhere to all Carpenter policy and procedures.
