WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS Waukesha County's District Attorney Office is seeking two (2) Paralegals. One of these positions is a Diversion Program Coordinator, which is grant-funded (full-time, benefitted). Specific work duties and responsibilities include:
- Coordinates and administers the Diversion Program; develops procedures, protocols, forms, and brochures.
- Screens cases upon referral to the DA's Office for potential eligibility for 1 of 4 tracks: pre- charge diversion, Act 33 DPA, DPA, or Drug Court.
- Has knowledge of/ability to work with defendants with substance use disorders. Refers cases for additional eligibility screening (risk/needs assessment).
- Once determined eligible, presents the DA's recommendation to the defendant and his/her attorney.
- When appropriate, prepares negotiated plea agreements for finalization in court.
- Works closely with the Diversion Case Manager to monitor the progress of diversion contracts and DPAs.
- Tracks cases to ensure defendants are complying with deadlines. Coordinates follow-up on cases including obtaining necessary documents and maintaining complete case files.
- Maintains calendars to track cases. Refers non-compliance issues to the assignedprosecutor for his/her attention.
The other Paralegal position is dedicated to gathering and organizing the evidence necessary to draft and file criminal complaints including preparing subpoenas and search warrants, as well as organizing prosecution case files and assisting with trials. This is a regular full-time benefitted position. Specific work duties and responsibilities include:
- Legal research and drafting briefs, motions, and other legal documents
- Conducts trial preparation and appears at trial or other court proceedings to assist attorneys
- Creating spreadsheets and exhibits and organizing complex financial information and transactions.
- Gathers and utilizes information to make recommendations to the supervising attorney.
The 2025 starting hourly rate range is $26.69 to $31.00 (depending on qualifications; full range extends to $35.31) coupled with a comprehensive benefits package. Prior to hiring, the successful candidate will be subject to a background investigation conducted by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies, criminal justice, political science, business administration or a closely related field; OR 2. A Paralegal Certificate from a recognized college or business institute, and four (4) years of work experience as a paralegal in a legal environment.
