Salary: $115,000 - $130,000, depending on experience & qualifications
Position Summary
The Finance Department at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science invites applications for a full-time Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller will perform daily accounting functions of the university and will be part of the Finance Department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Help oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and payroll accounting
- Ensure the timely and accurate closing of financial records on a monthly basis
- In partnership with the Controller, ensure that all legal and tax requirements are met, including providing key support with IRS Form 990s and IRS Form 1099s
- Prepare schedules and gather information required by the university's independent auditors
- Help facilitate the annual audit and preparation of year-end financials
- Support the Controller and CFO with debt compliance activities
- Maintain internal controls and recommend improvements to ensure the integrity of financial information and compliance with university policies and applicable laws
- Make recommendations for policy development; author institutional policies and department procedures when needed
- Oversee accounting for payroll and benefits in coordination with Human Resources/Payroll
- Support and collaborate with all segments of the university and health clinics, notably 1) patient care divisions, 2) Office of Sponsored Research and 3) Institutional Advancement, to improve fiscal processes and financial reporting
- Supervise certain Staff and/or Senior Accountants
- Provide coaching and mentorship to other accounting and finance personnel
- Contribute to the success of the university by performing all other duties as assigned
Conditions of Employment
- Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check

Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent working experience
- CPA certification or CPA eligible
- Five years of experience in a related accounting position or related field

Preferred Qualifications
- Higher education accounting experience
- Nonprofit accounting experience
- Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance and grants accounting
- Ellucian/Colleague experience
