Position requires being on site on our Baltimore, MD campus Monday-Friday.

Reporting to the Director of Consolidated Service Center (CSC), the Assistant Director position requires a strategic thinker with strong background in logistics, transportation, and outsourced vendor management. The Assistant Director will manage the development and implementation of an efficient and effective transportation network responsible for delivering supplies and services throughout the Johns Hopkins Health System. The Assistant Director is responsible for route planning, managing delivery schedules, ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations, supervising transportation staff, and monitoring transportation related expense.

Other responsibilities include:




  • Oversee daily operations of the outsourced transportation network, monitoring KPI performance and ensuring compliance with service level agreements.
  • This position will set performance targets for the transportation team and monitor progress, ensuring that operational goals related to delivery times, cost-efficiency, and service quality are met.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the transportation team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and analyze transportation expenses, identifying areas for cost reduction while maintaining high service quality.
  • Establish best practices and standard operating procedures to uphold service quality, addressing any quality issues promptly.
  • Ensure all transportation activities adhere to relevant regulations and safety standards to mitigate risks.
  • Manage compliance training programs for staff to promote a culture of safety and regulatory adherence.



Education: Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field.

Work Experience:




  • 7 years supply chain and logistics experience with three years of prior leadership experience is required.
  • Preferred experience in 3PL transportation services, health system supply chain, or customer service role.



Knowledge:




  • Requires an in-depth, professional level knowledge of JHHS Supply Chain operations to meet customer needs related to transportation, materials and inventory management.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft EXCEL, SAP and Kronos Systems
  • Requires understanding of finance and accounting principles for decision making and communication with Corporate Finance.
  • Knowledge of warehouse and logistical operations is required. Knowledge of the ways various systems interact and how changes in operations, the environment and other conditions will affect outcomes is required.
  • Requires expertise in technical projects involving large amounts of data.
  • Experience in building and managing teams as well as developing organizational strategies.
  • Ability to work, influence, and gain consensus across multiple functions and entities within Supply Chain.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of supply chain operations, distribution, logistics, receiving, ERP Supply Chain applications, transportation management.



Skills:




  • Must possess superior interpersonal skills to regularly interact with individuals at all levels of hospital/health system organizations including senior executive leadership, external and internal auditors and vendors.
  • Ability to work well independently and in groups.
  • Requires well-defined project management skills to implement and deploy projects organization-wide.
  • Requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills with an understanding and focus on proactive rather than reactive responses
  • High proficiency in MS Office suite (Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills required to interact with CSC staff and member institution's staff for resolving problems relating to the warehouse/ distribution functions
  • Outstanding presentation skills necessary to communicate strategy.



Salary Range: Minimum $41.26/hour - Maximum $72.23/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
