Overview
The Vermont Criminal Justice Council (VCJC) is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven leader to serve as Deputy Director of the Vermont Police Academy. This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in shaping the future of law enforcement in Vermont by overseeing the operational functions of the Academy and supporting professional standards statewide. The Deputy Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Vermont Police Academy. This includes oversight of facilities, training programs, security, and compliance activities, as well as supervision of staff and coordination with state partners. The position will work closely with the Executive Director and Administrative Director to ensure the Academy runs smoothly and fulfills its critical mission. This role blends operational leadership with public service impact. The Deputy Director will help implement statewide police reform initiatives, manage key training programs for law enforcement, and safeguard the property and personnel that make this important work possible. The Deputy Director will have frequent interaction with law enforcement, agency heads, chiefs, and sheriffs, Vermont State Police command staff as well as VSP partners at Office of Professional Development (OPD) at the Vermont Police Academy, Vermont Criminal Justice Council members, Legislature, Department of Human Resources, Attorney General's office, states attorneys, and town managers.Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Occasional travel will be required for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal office hours will be required. Stress from deadlines may be anticipated. Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher in criminal justice, public administration, law, or related field AND four (4) or more years of experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, or the military INCLUDING experience as a supervisor or manager. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the criminal justice system. Special Requirements
Candidates must pass a background investigation applicable to the position to include but not limited to, finger-print supported Criminal Records, Motor Vehicle records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s). Total Compensation
