The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately 6 months.

Candidates Hired Must Be Able To:

  • Successfully complete all required background checks and health screenings.
  • Work occasional evenings or weekends, depending on the scheduling of community events.
  • Perform duties across various UCSF and community-based settings with flexibility and adaptability.
The Community Education Specialist 1 will support UCSF's community education and outreach programs by delivering standardized education programs, supporting volunteer initiatives, and assisting with event planning and data tracking. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals passionate about public service, community health, and education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver standardized community education lessons and manage related volunteer activities.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating special events in collaboration with leadership and community partners.
  • Collect and maintain data on program activities, including attendance and outcomes.
  • Support participant recruitment to meet established program goals.
  • Maintain inventories, activity logs, and administrative documentation.
  • Foster relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Provide general support to program volunteers.
  • Participate in training and development to enhance program knowledge and delivery skills.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • Completion of relevant coursework or equivalent work experience in education, public health, or related fields.
  • Experience or academic background related to educational programming or public outreach.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team and interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in standard business software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Coursework or continued education in a related field.
  • Experience supporting community education or volunteer-based programs.
