The role is a vital member of the care team, responsible for exercising appropriate leadership and oversight of clinical operations throughout the assigned site or other Ambulatory OBGYN department under the direction of the Practice Manager. In addition to performing the duties of a Medical Assistant, the position serves as a role model and resource for site staff.
Does this position require Patient Care? Yes
1.Greet patients professionally and escort them into the exam room, always mindful of privacy, comfort, and confidentiality.
2.Take and document patient vital signs, collect specimens, and perform point-of-care testing as ordered. Assist with all procedures within the practice, including pelvic exams, vaginal ultrasounds, office hysteroscopies, endometrial biopsies, Karmen aspirations, polypectomies, and early pregnancy intrauterine ultrasounds under physician supervision.
3.Prepare procedural medications under the supervision of a physician.
4.Keep detailed records of clinical information provided by the physician during exams and procedures.
5.Maintain detailed equipment assessments pre- and post-procedures.
6.Clean and provide low- and high-level disinfection of all procedural equipment, including use of the Trophon machine, following BWH infection control guidelines. Submit requests for equipment disinfection and manage drop-off/pick-up as needed.
7.Assist MDs with intrauterine inseminations, ensuring precise identification of sperm specimens for accuracy.
8.Maintain familiarity with expected outcomes of procedures and recognize situations requiring nurse or physician notification.
9.Complete lab requisitions, including outside genetic testing paperwork, under RN/MD supervision.
10.Evaluate the daily schedule to identify changes in appointments and anticipate the need for rescheduling.
11.Anticipate plans of care for follow-up visits, including preparing additional lab requisition slips.
12.Scan procedural consents, outside medical records, and other documents into EMR.
13.Assist physicians/fellows during oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer procedures using sterile techniques in the OR. Responsibilities include room setup, managing suction/ultrasound machines, maintaining equipment temperatures, and accurate documentation.
14.Assist with embryo transfers, including room and ultrasound setup.
15.Assist with new patient paperwork.
16.Support physicians with other operative procedures, such as stitch application.
17.Maintain par levels of patient education materials and clinical testing supplies.
18.Participate in unit quality assurance regarding documentation and core CFA responsibilities.
19.Order supplies as needed.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials
Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred Certified Medical Assistant - Data Conversion - Various Issuers Required

Experience
Experience as a medical assistant, with demonstrated proficiency in clinical and administrative tasks 1-3 years required. Gyn and fertility procedure experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Ability to take vital signs, manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples and other specimens.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other privacy and security regulations.
