Position Overview:

A well-established and growing real estate services firm is seeking a strategic and experienced Controller to lead the financial operations for both its brokerage and property management divisions. This position is critical to maintaining financial integrity, overseeing daily accounting functions, and providing insightful reporting to senior leadership and investment partners.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with a strong background in real estate accounting, team development, and systems improvement, capable of balancing high-level financial strategy with day-to-day operational oversight.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of managed properties, including general ledger accuracy, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, and reporting.

  • Manage and monitor cash flow across multiple ownership entities, each with distinct financial goals.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team, instilling a culture of precision, accountability, and continuous growth.

  • Prepare and present financial statements, delivering both data and strategic context to leadership teams, ownership groups, and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory standards.

  • Partner with the property management team to maintain accuracy in financial records, including CAM reconciliations and budget reviews.

  • Collaborate on the rollout and optimization of new accounting, HR, or enterprise systems.

  • Coordinate with third-party auditors and external tax advisors to support audit and tax reporting processes.

  • Assist the CFO with corporate responsibilities such as benefits review and insurance renewals.

  • Serve as a key member of the company's retirement plan advisory team, contributing operational and financial insights.

  • Continuously evaluate and enhance financial processes, internal controls, and systems for improved efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications:
  • BAin Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • Experience in commercial real estate accounting (brokerage, property management, or development) is strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with accounting systems such as Yardi, Skyline, Microsoft Excel, and Access.

  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams while communicating effectively with cross-functional leaders and investor groups.

  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.


Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
