Job Summary

The Education Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the onboarding, training, and competency of Medical Assistants (MAs), Ambulatory Clinical Technicians (ACTs) and Ambulatory Clinical/Clerical Technicians (ACCTs). This position involves working closely with nurse educators and educational program leaders to manage onboarding and student/apprentice schedules or practice requests, supporting MA/ACT/ACCT clinical skills development, addressing clinical concerns and remediation needs, engaging in recruitment and other clinical competency initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Onboarding, Competency, and Training: Assist nurse educators to facilitate orientation and onboarding of MAs, ACTs and ACCTs; supports clinical skills development through training and mentorship. Assists practices with MA/ACT/ACCT clinical competencies, concerns and remediation; engage in clinical competency initiatives. Offers education assistance and contributes to the development/delivery of continuing education opportunities for Medical Assistants.
  • Record keeping: Maintains records related to orientation/onboarding, competency and records related to student affiliations such as clinical schedules, assignments, student/faculty access lists, orientation documents in accordance with Corewell Health records retention policies. Works with Talent Acquisition and Resource Center to support new graduate and float pools. Scheduling: Enter, monitor and maintain schedules and practice requests for designated employees/students/apprentices.
  • Preceptor Mentorship: Serves as a mentor and helps facilitate ongoing professional development activities and competencies for clinical preceptors (MA/ACT/ACCT) in the practices.
  • Data: Participates in collection of data through surveys and other evaluations to improve quality related to onboarding, ongoing education, competency, and student/apprentice programs.
  • Team Support: Provide support to nurse educators and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth program operations. Assists with operational duties such as supply inventory and ordering, room reservations, equipment, etc.
  • BLS Program: Manages the BLS program for CHW ambulatory, which includes coordinating schedules and room reservations, ensuring the appropriate placement of manikins, and regularly verifying that stations are fully functional and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Collaborative Academic Partnerships & Recruitment: Collaborates with vocational schools to enhance learning for MA students. Consistently evaluates and improves clinical experiences for them. Stays current on academic events impacting clinical opportunities. Regularly communicates with MA school reps about updates or changes. Collaborates with faculty members, MA students, Corewell Health's Clinical Operations and practice leaders to address issues or concerns. Represents Corewell Health on MA program advisory committees, school partnerships and other events such as job fairs and recruitment sessions.
  • Student & Apprentice Programs: Serves as liaison for student placements and coordinates clinical experiences/rotations within Corewell Health to ensure students, apprentices and others are properly allocated. Manages clinical rotation schedules and practice requests while acting as a liaison with Talent Acquisition to assist with hiring and placement post-training; Collaborates with legal to ensure that Master Academic Affiliation Agreements are in place or have been requested for partnering academic institutions and are comprehensive and current.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years experience as a Medical Assistant
  • CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants upon hire or
  • CRT-Medical Assistant, Registered (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) upon hire or
  • CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) upon hire or
  • CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) upon hire or
  • CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) upon hire or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 120 days and
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Red Cross (ARC)

Preferred

  • Associates or bachelor's degree in healthcare or related field
  • 1 year leadership or education role
